Zhonghua Night Market Introduction
Zhonghua Road Night Market, located in the Zhong District of Taichung City along Zhonghua Road, is one of the earliest famous night markets in Taichung. The night market has existed for over 40 years and was one of the most bustling commercial areas in Taichung during the 1960s and 1970s. Later, with the fluctuations in the economy and the relocation of the municipal center, it transformed into the Zhonghua Road Tourist Night Market. Most of the food stalls on Zhonghua Road operate from 5 PM to 4 AM, offering a variety of Taiwanese snacks from both the north and south of the island, as well as international cuisine. Notable snacks include the signature raw oysters from Zhiwei Stall, various types of porridge, Tanzi stinky tofu, Chenji Herbal Tea, Ah Shui’s noodle stall, Milk King, sour plum juice, and the renowned international dish Singaporean Bak Kut Teh, which is also recommended as one of the classic old shops. After half a century of development, Zhonghua Night Market has gradually transformed into a tourist night market that blends traditional and modern styles, retaining the classic flavors of old shops while incorporating new types of vendors, moving towards a more refined route. Although it places more emphasis on preserving traditional characteristics compared to other younger night markets, its unique historical atmosphere allows visitors to experience the rich Taichung culture and nostalgic charm.
