Zhonghua Night Market Introduction
Zhonghua Road Night Market, located in the Zhong District of Taichung City along Zhonghua Road, is one of the early famous night markets in Taichung. It has existed for over 40 years and was one of the busiest commercial areas in Taichung during the 1960s and 1970s. Later, with the ups and downs of the economy and the relocation of the municipal center, it transformed into the Zhonghua Road Tourist Night Market. Most of the food stalls on Zhonghua Road operate from 5 PM to 4 AM, featuring a variety of Taiwanese snacks from both the north and the south, as well as international cuisine. Notable delicacies include the signature raw green oysters from Zhiwei Stall, various types of porridge, Tanzi stinky tofu, Chenji Liangcha, and Ah Shui's noodle stall, as well as Milk King and sour plum juice. There is also the renowned Singapore Bak Kut Teh, which is highly recommended by many as an old establishment. After more than half a century, the Zhonghua Night Market has undergone changes with the economy's fluctuations and the relocation of the municipal center, evolving far from its original appearance. Some snacks that were available fifty years ago still operate today. With the addition of new-style vendors, it has taken a more refined direction, transforming into a tourist night market. Unlike other youthful night markets that promote innovative elements for marketing, Zhonghua combines the traces of Taichung's early development, making it a place where one can truly appreciate its historical charm.
