Zhonghua Road Night Market Introduction
Zhonghua Road Night Market, located around Zhonghua Road in the central district of Taichung City, is one of the early famous night markets in Taichung. It has been in existence for over 40 years, and during the 1960s to 1970s, it was one of the busiest commercial areas in Taichung. Later, due to economic fluctuations and the relocation of the administrative center, it transformed into Zhonghua Road Tourist Night Market. Most food stalls on Zhonghua Road operate from 5 PM to 4 AM, offering a variety of Taiwanese snacks from both North and South Taiwan, as well as international cuisine. Notable snacks include the signature raw green oysters from Zhiwei Stall, various types of congee, Tanzi stinky tofu, Chenji herbal tea, Ah Shui noodle stall, Milk King and sour plum juice, and the famous international dish Singapore Bak Kut Teh, which is also one of the recommended old shops. After half a century of development, Zhonghua Road Night Market has gradually transformed into a tourist night market that blends traditional and modern styles, preserving the classic flavors of old shops while incorporating new types of vendors, moving towards a more refined development. Although it focuses more on retaining traditional characteristics compared to other younger night markets, its unique historical atmosphere allows visitors to experience the rich Taichung culture and nostalgia here.
