Taiwan's First Temple Tian Tan "Tian Gong Temple" Introduction
The founding history of the First Temple in Taiwan, Tian Tan, can be traced back to the 15th year of the Yongli period during the Zheng dynasty, when Koxinga built an altar to worship Heaven and Earth after arriving in Taiwan. Since then, the worship was alternated among private homes until the fourth year of the Xianfeng period during the Qing dynasty (1854), when the temple was officially established. The main deity enshrined in the temple is the Jade Emperor, the highest deity in Taoist beliefs. The "one-character plaque" in front of the main hall is one of the four famous plaques in Tainan, making it worthy of a visit.
