Tainan City Central-and-Western District Library Introduction
Walking from the Taiwan Literature Museum towards Zhongzheng Road, you will see a green pedestrian bridge and building connected to the museum. This was originally the Tainan Prefectural Hall, a three-story building completed in 1935. Its facade has been obscured by extensions from Zhongzheng Road, but the original appearance of the Tainan Prefectural Hall can still be seen from the back. After World War II, it became the location of the Tainan City Council in the 1950s, but the council later moved to Anping. After being unused for a period following 1998, it was used by the Photography Culture Hall and became the Tainan City Council Historical Materials Museum, showcasing valuable historical documents and photographs related to Tainan's political history. In 2018, to address the lack of space in the library located in the Central and Western District, the city government decided to relocate the library to the designated historical site of the former Tainan Prefectural Hall. After four years of renovation, it opened in 2022.
