Chianan Irrigation Administration, Ministry of Agriculture Introduction

During Japan's rule over Taiwan, the island was treated as an economic colony. However, the Chianan Plain at that time faced severe water resource scarcity, with most farmland being barren and farmers frequently encountering droughts and floods. As a result, the Japanese established the "Public Irrigation Chianan Grand Canal Office" to construct the Chianan Grand Canal to address the irrigation water issues in the Chianan Plain. Initially, the office was located in Chiayi City of Chiayi County, and it only moved to Tainan Prefecture in 1909. In 1940, due to the continuous expansion of its operations, it was reconstructed at its current site.
