Former Japanese Army Tainan Garrison Hospital Introduction
In the 30th year of the Meiji era (1897), the Tainan garrison hospital was established by the Japanese army at Chihkan Tower. In the 6th year of the Taisho era (1917), a larger facility was rebuilt as part of the Japanese military's third phase permanent barracks plan on the north side of the Second Infantry Regiment (now the Guangfu campus of National Cheng Kung University), making it very complete. In the 12th year of the Showa era (1937), it was renamed Tainan Army Hospital. After World War II, in the 37th year of the Republic of China (1948), the National Government military took over the site and established the Army Training Command Medical Center, which began treating patients in mid-September. The following year, it was renamed the Taiwan Provincial Army Command Medical Center, and in the 39th year of the Republic of China (1950), it was reorganized as the "Army General Command Medical Center," and in October, restructured as the "Army Officer School Medical Center." In the 41st year of the Republic of China (1952), it was restructured as the "Army Independent Hospital," and in May, it was renamed the "Army Hospital," directly under the Army Headquarters. In the 43rd year of the Republic of China (1954), the "Army Hospital" was upgraded to the "4th General Hospital of the Logistics Command," directly under the Logistics Command Headquarters. In the 44th year of the Republic of China (1955), it was transferred to the Army Supply Command medical system, and the hospital's name became the "4th General Hospital of the Army." In the 49th year of the Republic of China (1960), to unify the hospital numbering, the Army Headquarters renamed the hospital the "804th General Hospital of the Army," commonly known as 804 Hospital. In the 89th year of the Republic of China (2000), the current site of the hospital was transferred to National Cheng Kung University, and in the 90th year of the Republic of China (2001), campus planning was completed for the western side of the Lixing campus (the former 804 Military Hospital).
