Kunshan Lake (Carp Pond) Introduction
Yongkang District is located in the former Taijang Inner Sea, characterized by many ponds and bridges, among which the most famous is "Jiyu Pond." In ancient times, this pond was part of the Dawan Strait, but due to land elevation, it eventually turned into a lagoon and gradually evolved into a pond. Today, within the borders of Yongkang District, it has three names: one is Jiyu Pond, named for the abundance of crucian carp in the water; another is Donghu, named for its location to the east of Tainan City; and the third is Longtan, referred to by geomancers as the site of the dragon of Tainan City. The pond's water never runs dry, making it an important irrigation source in Yongkang. The pond remains plentiful throughout the seasons and is most beautiful during clear moonlit nights, together with "Datan Pond" in Guanmiao, it was once one of the eight scenic spots of the former Tainan city, known as "Jipond Clear Moon" or "Long Pond Night Moon."
