Da Wan Kuang Hu Temple Introduction
Yongkang Guanghu Temple is dedicated to the worship of Guanghui Shengwang, a relatively rare deity in Taiwan. Guanghui Zunwang historically refers to the famous politician "Xie An," who gained great recognition for his victory in the Battle of Feishui. Xie An, a figure from the Eastern Jin dynasty, was known for his strategies yet maintained a noble character; after his death, he was posthumously granted the title of "Duke of Luling," which is why Guanghui Shengwang is also called "Wang Gong Ye," and the temple is known as "Wang Gong Temple." The worship of Guanghui Zunwang was brought to Taiwan by immigrants from Zhangzhou. According to historical records, the temple was established during the Zheng period. Even though the temple experienced destruction during the Japanese occupation—being converted into a police station and later having its auxiliary buildings demolished as part of the Japanization movement—the faith has persisted to this day, serving as a spiritual center for the Greater Bay area. The once-every-twelve-years festival known as the "Jian Ritual" is a significant local event. One of the most famous parts of the procession is the "Centipede Formation," where children dress up as various historical or mythological figures sitting atop a centipede float, making it a focal point for photography enthusiasts.
