Kaohsiung Public LibraryMain Branch Introduction
Kaohsiung Public Library Main Branch is located on Xinguang Road and is a building that combines plants, environmental protection, and culture. This eight-story new main library features a square exterior and a circular interior, with a floor area of 37,233 square meters. It is designed with trees as the architectural concept and books as the main attraction, creating a spacious and friendly environment that offers the unique experience of trees within the library and the library among the trees. The new main library has several groundbreaking innovations in architecture and design: a steel rod suspension structure, a suspended landscaped atrium, a 7.5-meter-high column-free shaded plaza, modular space arrangement, and extensive planting for green energy and carbon reduction... making it a new model of green public architecture. The minimalist design, combined with natural greenery and the scent of books, creates a tranquil and comfortable reading space. The warmth of Kaohsiung's community is also present in the library, which has over 700,000 books funded by public donations. Additionally, there is a meaningful "Gratitude Tree" inside the library to thank the citizens and everyone who contributed, marking an eternal imprint of Kaohsiung's culture. The first floor of the library is an open, semi-enclosed space, and the rooftop features a sky garden offering views of the bay area. This reading space welcomes everyone to share the joy of reading, reminiscent of the old banyan tree in a village, filled with cheerful reading voices and laughter, making it the most attractive cultural spot in Kaohsiung both day and night.
