Kaohsiung Main Public Library Introduction
The Kaohsiung Public Library Main Branch is located on Xinguang Road and is a building that combines plants, environmental protection, and culture. This eight-story new main library is designed with a square exterior and a circular interior, boasting a floor area of 37,233 square meters. With the concept of trees as the architectural theme and books as the main focus, it creates an open and spacious friendly environment where trees exist within the library, and the library exists within the trees. In terms of architecture and design, the new main library features several groundbreaking innovations: a steel rod suspension structure, a suspended landscaped atrium, a 7.5-meter high column-free plaza, modular spatial arrangements, and extensive planting that reduces carbon through green energy... making it a new model of green public architecture. The minimalist design style combined with natural greenery and book aromas creates a serene and comfortable reading space. The warm human touch of Kaohsiung is also present in the library, with books funded through public donations, resulting in a collection of over 700,000 volumes upon opening. Inside, there is also a significant "Gratitude Tree," expressing thanks to the citizens and all who participated, creating an eternal mark of Kaohsiung's culture. The first floor of the main library features a semi-open space, and the top floor has a sky garden overlooking the bay area. In this shared reading environment, it resembles the large banyan tree of old village headmen, filled with the sounds of reading and laughter, making it the most attractive cultural spot in the port city, day or night.
