Kaohsiung Main Library Introduction
Kaohsiung Main Public Library is located on Xinguang Road and is a building that integrates plants, environmental protection, and culture. This new eight-story building features a unique design with a square exterior and a circular interior, with a floor area of up to 37,233 square meters. The architectural concept is based on trees and focuses on books, creating a friendly space that has trees within the library and a library with trees. In terms of architecture and design, the new main branch has several groundbreaking innovations: a steel rod suspended structure, a suspended atrium, a 7.5-meter high column-free plaza, modular space arrangements, and extensive planting for green energy and carbon reduction. It is a new model of green public architecture, where the minimalist design and natural greenery create a tranquil and comfortable reading environment. Kaohsiung's beautiful human warmth is also present in the library, with over 700,000 books collected through public fundraising. There is also a meaningful "Gratitude Tree" in the library to thank the citizens and everyone involved in creating an eternal mark on Kaohsiung's culture. The first floor of the main library features a semi-open high ceiling space, and the rooftop has a sky garden overlooking the bay area scenery. In this shared reading space, reminiscent of the big banyan tree in old village squares, the sound of reading and cheerful laughter makes it a culturally attractive place in the port city, day or night.
