Kaohsiung Public Library Main Branch Introduction
The Kaohsiung Main Public Library is located on Xinguang Road and is a building that combines plants, environmental sustainability, and culture. This eight-story new main building features a rectangular exterior with a circular interior, covering a floor area of 37,233 square meters. It is designed with the concept of trees as the architectural focus and books as the main feature, creating a spacious, friendly environment where the library houses trees and trees house the library. In terms of architecture and design, the new main library has several groundbreaking innovations: steel-hung construction, suspended landscaped atrium, a 7.5-meter high column-free covered square, modular spatial arrangement, and extensive planting for green energy and carbon reduction... it is a new model for green public buildings. The minimalist design, coupled with natural greenery and the scent of books, creates a serene and comfortable reading space. The warmth of Kaohsiung is also present in the library, with over 700,000 volumes collected through public fundraising for books. Inside, there is a significant "Gratitude Tree," thanking citizens and everyone for their contribution, which marks the eternal imprint of Kaohsiung's culture. The first floor of the library features a semi-open space, and the rooftop has a sky garden offering views of the bay area. In this reading space that welcomes everyone to share, it resembles the large banyan trees of old village squares, with the sounds of reading and happy laughter filling the air, making it the most appealing cultural hub of Kaohsiung, both day and night.
