Kaohsiung Public Library Main Branch Introduction
Kaohsiung Public Library Main Branch is located on Xinguang Road. It is a building that combines plants, environmental sustainability, and culture. This new eight-story main branch features a square exterior and a circular interior, with a floor area of 37,233 square meters. With trees as the architectural concept and books as the focus, it creates an open and spacious friendly environment where trees coexist with the library. In terms of architecture and design, the new main branch of the library presents several groundbreaking innovations: a steel rod suspension structure, a suspended landscape atrium, a column-free plaza with a height of 7.5 meters, modular space arrangements, and extensive greenery for energy conservation and carbon reduction, making it a new model of green public architecture. The minimalist design and natural greenery create a tranquil and comfortable reading space. Kaohsiung's warmth is also present in this library, with books donated through public fundraising resulting in a collection exceeding 700,000 volumes at its opening. Inside the library, there is a significant "Tree of Gratitude," thanking citizens and everyone for their participation, establishing an everlasting mark of culture in Kaohsiung. The first floor of the main library is an open semi-public space, and the rooftop features a sky garden overlooking the bay area. In this shared reading space, reminiscent of the old banyan trees in village squares, the sounds of reading and laughter can be heard, making it a culturally captivating place in the harbor city both day and night.
