Kaohsiung Music Center (Love River Bay) Introduction
Located in the center of the Kaohsiung Asia New Bay District, the facility was constructed by a Spanish architectural team in collaboration with a Taiwanese team. The design team utilized marine elements to outline uniquely shaped structures, making it not only the core of popular music performances in southern Taiwan but also an international music cultural landmark. With a focus on popular music and a heritage of ocean culture, it creates a new base for music and leisure. The project was officially approved by the Executive Yuan in 2009 and is planned, designed, and constructed by the Kaohsiung City Government under the commission of the Ministry of Culture. It operates under a new form of "administrative corporation" model known as the "Kaohsiung Popular Music Center." The center aims to cultivate domestic popular music talent and support the industry, while also integrating with the scenic harbor, creating a new leisure and tourism space. The Kaohsiung "Harbor" city image is highlighted at the confluence of the Love River and the Kaohsiung harbor area—Love River Bay—where the Kaohsiung Popular Music Center is situated. The facility includes a high and low tower, a coral reef area, a whale embankment, a dolphin walkway, and a LIVE WAREHOUSE zone. The high and low tower area comprises a high tower, a low tower, a sea breeze plaza, and a sea sound pavilion. The high and low towers feature a cutting-edge design inspired by the waves of the sea, which connects to Kaohsiung's "Harbor" city identity. The sea sound pavilion can accommodate 4,000-6,000 people for indoor performances, filling the gap of medium-sized venues in Taiwan, while the sea breeze plaza can hold 8,000-10,000 people. The coral reef area is a mixed-use commercial space designed with a coral reef motif, featuring two independent floors that provide space for experiences, exhibitions, and multipurpose commercial activities. The whale embankment is designed with a whale group theme and includes six independent performance spaces, with eSports alliances and KKBOX operating in Whale Halls No. 3 and No. 5. Situated right by the sea, the area features landscaped viewing platforms for watching stunning sunsets and is conveniently located near the Glory Pier Light Rail Station, with automobile parking spaces available, making it an ideal spot for leisurely strolls in the afternoon on weekends and holidays. The dolphin walkway is an independent commercial space connected by a 735-meter-long sky walkway that links the high and low towers, coral reef area, and whale embankment. The design concept represents dolphins leaping from the surface of the sea, featuring an interior height of 5 meters and transparent floor-to-ceiling windows that offer unbeatable sea views. The southernmost powerful music base, the unique waterfront LIVE WAREHOUSE, serves as Kaohsiung's first professional concert venue designed for 1,000 people, and is the only waterfront warehouse music space in Taiwan. It hosts a diverse range of performances and actively nurtures popular music talents, creating a unique sound landscape that reflects local characteristics. Located in the Pier-2 Art Center's Dae Yi area, Little Warehouse (230 people) and Big Warehouse (1,400 people) offer live performances every week, attracting music enthusiasts and quickly accumulating the energetic presence of southern popular music!
