Shoushan Zoo Introduction

Shoushan Zoo in Kaohsiung City is the largest public zoo in southern Taiwan, managed by the Kaohsiung City Tourism Bureau. It is one of three municipal zoos in Taiwan, second only to Taipei Zoo in scale. In 2022, the zoo improved the living spaces and outdoor activity areas for the animals and established animal-friendly aerial observation pathways, allowing Kaohsiung residents and visitors to observe the daily lives of adorable animals from different angles with minimal disturbance. It is an ideal place for family leisure, outdoor education, and ecological science popularization. The zoo features softened boundaries through landscaping, with aerial pathways weaving through the animals' habitats. Alongside the increased net fencing, visitors can blend in and watch the interactions of the animals from above. Visitors can enter two high-ceilinged mountain cabins on the aerial bridge and four animal observation corridors suspended below it, where large floor-to-ceiling windows allow them to see closely resembling their natural habitat. They can observe capybaras enjoying their baths, lions lazily sunbathing, and Formosan black bears comfortably scratching tree trunks. The adorable and authentic appearances of various animals make visitors feel as if they have stepped into their homes, providing a multi-faceted experience of their living spaces. After the renovation, Shoushan Zoo has become a harmonious observation place that integrates nature. The park's pathways and roads have been improved, and a park shuttle train is available for visitors. Fun videos and informational signs are set along the visiting routes, enabling both children and adults to gain a deeper understanding of animal habits. The water square has transformed into a fun fountain with mist like chimneys, allowing children to play in the refreshing water. Additionally, old animal enclosures have been renovated, with some roofs opened to introduce sunlight and rainwater, improving ventilation, cleanliness, and drainage, thus creating a comfortable living space for the animals. New Attraction - Capybara at Shoushan Zoo Shoushan Zoo has introduced capybaras and mixed them with various herbivores such as alpacas and miniature donkeys. Visitors can enjoy observing the animals' behaviors from above and can also walk down to the exhibition hall for a level perspective, closely watching them eat, sleep, and play in the water in their homes. Must-See "Star Animals" The animal stars of Shoushan Zoo are treasures of Kaohsiung. They include the Formosan black bear - Bobby, the red-faced orangutan couple - Ah Hong and Mi Mi, the handsome white tiger - Zhao Hai, and the veteran African elephant - Ah Li. Visitors can also see the adorable meerkat family, whose every move melts the hearts of the spectators.
