Erren River Riverside Park Introduction
The Erjen Creek, originating from Shanzhu Lake in Neimen District, Kaohsiung City, serves as the boundary creek between Kaohsiung and Tainan. From the 1970s to 2000, the midstream of Erjen Creek was a gathering place for factories specializing in the processing and refining of scrap metal, while upstream there were pig farms and livestock breeding sites, which caused the water to be foul and black, with pollution levels reaching the highest in Taiwan. Since a significant remediation effort began in 2001, Erjen Creek has gradually regained vitality in recent years. The district office has established two observation decks at Wafu and Changluo in Alian District, as well as a waterfront park that features areas for observing wild plants, camping, and an artificial lake. Most of the riverside retains its original natural appearance, aside from the wooden boardwalk. Aquatic plants provide habitat for birds and other wildlife. With a panoramic view of Erjen Creek, one can enjoy the lush greenery and tranquil scenery. The Erjen Creek waterfront park is an excellent spot for family excursions and birdwatching, serving as the best testament to ecological restoration.
