Dagang Mountain Chaofeng Temple Introduction
Chao Feng Temple, located in Gangshan Village of Alian District, Kaohsiung City, is situated at the summit of Dagang Mountain, providing an expansive view overlooking the Alian urban area and the plain landscape below. This thriving temple was built in the 28th year of the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty (1763), making it 250 years old, and it is one of the earliest Buddhist origins in southern Taiwan, primarily dedicated to Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy). It is currently listed as a second-class historic site, rich in historical value. The area of Chao Feng Temple is quite large, including the Hall of the Three Saints of the West, the Guanyin Hall, the Gateway to Enlightenment, Little Snowfield, and Tiger Banyan. Outside the temple are the Cihang Pudu Pond and a shopping street. Walking along the trail, visitors can enjoy the scenery of Dagang Mountain, with daytime views stretching from Cijin to the Taiwan Strait, breathtaking sunsets during dusk, and a million-dollar night view filled with lights in the evening, making it an essential destination for visitors to Gangshan.
