Dagangshan Chaofeng Temple Introduction
Chaofeng Temple is located in Gangshan Village, Alian District, Kaohsiung City, atop Dagang Mountain. It offers a vast and unobstructed view overlooking the Alian urban area and the plains below. The temple, which has a flourishing incense trade, was built in the 28th year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1763 AD), and has a history of 250 years. It is one of the earliest Buddhist origins in southern Taiwan and is dedicated to Guanyin (the Goddess of Mercy). Currently, it is listed as a second-level historic site, rich in historical value. The area of Chaofeng Temple is quite large, encompassing the Three Saints Hall in the West, the Guanyin Hall, the Deng Miaojue Gate, Little Snowy Land, and the Tiger Banyan, among others. Outside the temple, there is the Cihang Pudu Pool and a shopping street. As visitors walk along the trail, they can enjoy the scenery of Dagang Mountain, and during the day, have a distant view from Qieding to the Taiwan Strait. At dusk, they can admire the setting sun, and at night, the million-dollar night view of countless lights, making it a must-visit destination for tourists in Gangshan.
