Dagangshan Chaofeng Temple Introduction
Chaofeng Temple, located in Gangshan Village, Alian District, Kaohsiung City, sits atop Dagang Mountain, offering expansive views of the Alian urban area and the surrounding plains. The temple, which has a thriving incense offering, was built in the 28th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1763), making it over 250 years old and one of the earliest origins of Buddhism in southern Taiwan. It is primarily dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva and is currently designated as a second-level historical site, rich in historical significance. The area of Chaofeng Temple is extensive, including the Hall of the Three Saints of the West, Guanyin Hall, the Gate of Enlightenment, Little Snowfield, and the Tiger Banyan. Outside the temple, there is the Cihang Pudu Pond and a shopping street. Following the trail, visitors can enjoy the landscapes of Dagang Mountain, with distant views from Cieding to the Taiwan Strait during the day, sunset views in the evening, and a million-dollar nighttime scenery illuminated by countless lights, making it a must-visit destination for travelers coming to Gangshan.
