Dagangshan Chaofeng Temple Introduction
Chaofeng Temple is located in Gangshan Village, Alian District, Kaohsiung City, atop Dagang Mountain. It offers a vast and unobstructed view, overlooking the Alian urban area and the plains below. Established in the 28th year of the Qianlong Emperor’s reign (1763), Chaofeng Temple has a history of 250 years and is one of the earliest centers of Buddhism in southern Taiwan, primarily dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva. It is currently listed as a secondary historical monument, rich in historical significance. The temple grounds are extensive, featuring the Western Three Saints Hall, Guanyin Hall, the Gate of Miaoju, a small snowy area, and the Tiger Banyan. Outside the temple, there is the Cihang Pudu Pond and a shopping street. Walking along the trails allows visitors to enjoy the scenery of Dagang Mountain, with daytime views stretching from Cieding to the Taiwan Strait, a beautiful sunset during dusk, and a million-dollar night view filled with city lights at night—making it a must-visit destination for tourists in Gangshan.
