Yu Hsiao Art Museum Introduction
Yu Hsiu Museum, opened in early 2016, is a private museum focused on the promotion of contemporary realistic art, located at the foot of Jiujiufeng Mountain in Caotun, Nantou, surrounded by lush mountains. The serene scenery and exceptional geography resemble a utopia away from the hustle and bustle, providing visitors an aesthetic journey between nature and art. The museum was founded by Hou Ying-Cheng and Ye Yu-Hsiu, who adhere to the belief of “doing one meaningful thing in a lifetime,” gathering collective efforts to create a space that combines architectural aesthetics, contemporary art, and natural landscapes. Reflecting on the museum's origins, its founding director, Professor Li Zu-Hsin, played a crucial role as a driving force, serving as the foundational spirit and guardian of the museum. Professor Li and Ms. Ye became acquainted through art, and they are both close friends and partners, collaboratively planning, establishing systems, and cultivating operations starting from their shared artistic dream. Although Director Li passed away in early 2019 due to illness, his ideals and spirit continue to be nurtured by Founder Ye Yu-Hsiu and all staff members of the museum. The Yu Hsiu Museum focuses on the promotion and research of contemporary realistic art, enhancing public understanding and appreciation of realistic art through exhibitions, collections, education, and international exchanges. It actively supports excellent Taiwanese artists and emerging creators, raising the professionalism and visibility of realistic art. In addition to local cultivation, the museum also looks internationally, inviting representative artists from around the world for exhibitions, facilitating artistic intersections and resonances across nations, creating a contemporary realistic art platform rooted in Taiwan and connected globally. Located in Caotun, Nantou for nearly ten years, the museum has been attentive to the disparity in art education resources between urban and rural areas. Compared to the concentrated and abundant resources in urban areas, rural regions relatively require teaching partners for art faculty, materials, and concepts. Thus, the museum actively implements educational projects such as "My Art Class at the Museum" and "Art Express" for children in remote areas, allowing children far away in mountains and oceans to have the opportunity to access the creative thinking and joy of art. The mission of the museum continues to aspire to plant the seeds of aesthetics in this simple and tranquil land, injecting sustainable nourishment into local culture, striving to allow art to take root, expand outward, and branch out.
