Xia Ka Luo Ancient Trail Introduction
The Xiakaro National Trail, hidden in the mountains at the junction of Jianshi Township and Wufeng Township in Hsinchu County, is a deep hiking route that combines history, culture, and natural beauty. The trail consists of two sections, the "Xiakaro Guard Road" and the "Sakya-jin Guard Road," which were originally constructed as military patrol paths during the Japanese colonial period, traversing the living areas of the Atayal tribes "Kinaji Group" and "Xiakaro Group." This route crosses the main ridge of Xiakaro Mountain, which is over 2,000 meters above sea level and was historically used by the Atayal people for visiting relatives, hunting, and communication. During the Japanese rule, to maintain military control, the Japanese military widened the indigenous trails into mountain crossing roads and established several outposts, leaving behind remnants and traces of history that can still be seen today.
