The impressive performances of glove puppetry are inseparable from the meticulous carving and creation of the puppets. Master Xu Yanqing began his work in puppet carving in the 1950s and produced beloved characters like Shi Yanwen, Zangjingren, the Black and White Gentlemen, Liu San, Guai Laizi, and Erchi, which gained popularity throughout Taiwan. Master Yanqing's descendants have inherited this craft, which has now reached its third generation.
