Yangmingshan National Park - Lengshuikeng Introduction

The Lengshuikeng Hot Spring is located in the valley on the eastern side between Qixing Mountain and Mafeng Mountain (also known as Qigu Mountain). It was originally a standard volcanic vent but has been eroded by natural weathering and human development, leaving only a slightly noticeable caved appearance. The main rocks in the area are ignimbrite and dioritic andesites rich in clinopyroxene, with most of the rock around the hot spring altered through hydrothermal processes, resulting in clay formation. The spring water that emerges from beneath Lengshuikeng is approximately 40 degrees Celsius, which is significantly lower than the temperatures found in other hot spring areas, hence its name. This site is also home to Taiwan's only sedimentary sulfur deposit, with the spring water appearing milky white, leading to its nickname of "Milk Pool." The Lengshuikeng Hot Spring is formed by indirect heating of groundwater and features two distinct types of springs: neutral bicarbonate springs and weakly acidic sulfate springs. Nearby attractions include the Juansi Waterfall and the Dream Lake Ecological Protection Area, which are also popular destinations. In this natural environment, visitors often encounter various wildlife, including the Long-legged Red Frog, the Striped Red Frog (known for its calls that sound like bird songs), and the Pangu Toad, along with some snakes and reptiles. While enjoying the beauty of nature, please prioritize safety and respect the environment by avoiding disturbances to these creatures.
