Yangmingshan National Park - Lengshuikeng Introduction
Lengshuikeng Hot Springs is located in the eastern valley between Qixing Mountain and Mafen Mountain (Qigu Mountain). Originally a standard explosion crater, it has been reshaped by natural erosion and human cultivation, leaving only an inconspicuous depression. The main rock types are tuff breccia and pyroxene hornblende andesite, with most of the rocks near the spring being altered by hydrothermal processes, appearing clayey. The spring water that gushes from the ground is approximately 40 degrees Celsius, significantly lower than the water temperatures in other hot spring areas, hence the name. This is also the only sedimentary sulfur mine in Taiwan, with milky white spring water, and is thus called the "Milk Pool." Lengshuikeng Hot Springs are formed through indirect heating of groundwater, with two different types of springs: neutral bicarbonate spring and weakly acidic sulfate spring. Nearby, Juanshi Waterfall and Dream Lake Ecological Conservation Area are also popular attractions. In this natural environment, you may often encounter various wildlife, including the Long-legged Red Frog, the Microhylid Frog (known for its bird-like calls), the wart-covered Pangu Toad, as well as some snakes and reptiles. While being mindful of safety, please also respect the environment and do not disturb them.
