Bamboo Lake Calla Lily Festival Introduction

The calla lily is native to South Africa. It is named "calla lily" because its spathes bloom like upside-down horseshoes, and the plants grow like lotus flowers in water. Currently, the calla lily flower field in Zhuzihu has a total production area of about 13 hectares, accounting for over 80% of Taiwan's calla lily output. The flowering period for calla lilies extends from January to May each year, with the peak bloom occurring from March to April. The calla lilies in Zhuzihu mainly consist of white calla lilies, where the elegant white "spathe" is not the actual flower; the yellow spadix in the center is covered with numerous inconspicuous small flowers, arranged in an orderly manner with separated male and female parts. During the calla lily season, on holidays (including weekends), traffic control measures will be implemented in the Zhuzihu area, directing one-way traffic in a clockwise manner along Calla Lily Avenue from the west side of Hutian Bridge towards the direction of the calla lilies, with one-way control stopping at the junction to Zhongzheng Mountain; the east path from Hutian Bridge to East Lake will allow two-way traffic, while the Dinghu section will be one-way and no U-turns will be allowed, directing traffic to exit via the newly opened stone path toward Yangjin Highway. The traffic control in the Zhuzihu area will be enforced on holidays from 9 AM to 6 PM, with adjustments based on actual traffic volume. Given the limited road width in Zhuzihu, it is recommended that visitors make use of public transportation systems, such as the MRT and buses. Relevant public transportation information can be found on the Taipei City Department of Transportation website. There are six calla lily trails featuring different sceneries for you to explore. If you're looking to get some exercise, the Taipei City Public Works Department recommends six riverside trails in Zhuzihu. For large calla lily fields, the expansive scenery of Xiaoyoukeng, white egrets, and small terraced fields, you can visit the "Dinghu Circular Trail" in the Dinghu area, with a gentle path suitable for all ages, taking about 20 minutes to walk. If you’re interested in early farm waterwheels and ecological ponds, you may visit the "Calla Lily Circular Trail" in the Xiaohu area, which also takes about 20 minutes to walk. If you want to enjoy waterfalls, play with stones, and appreciate small hills and terraced fields, the "Literary Trail" in the Shuiwei area is quite suitable, taking only about 10 minutes to walk. For a panoramic view of hillside calla lily terraced fields, it is recommended to go to the "Lake Bottom Circular Trail," which takes about 15 minutes to walk. The longest "Zhuzihu Circular Trail" starts from Hutian Bridge, moving through East Lake, Dinghu, Shuiwei, and Xiaohu, with a walking time of approximately 50 minutes, allowing for enjoyable views of the beautiful Zhuzihu scenery. Additionally, there is the "Calla Lily Love Path," which takes about 15 minutes to walk, where you can see calla lilies from March to May, enjoy romantic flowers from April to June, and admire hydrangeas from May to August, with different surprises in each season. Visitors going uphill to appreciate the flowers during the calla lily season's holidays (including the Children's Day long weekend) are advised to use public transport.
