Zhuzi Lake Calla Lily Season Introduction

The calla lily is native to South Africa and is named for its spathe, which looks like an inverted horseshoe, and for its plant that grows like a lotus in the water. Currently, the calla lily flower fields in Zhuzi Lake cover an area of about 13 hectares, accounting for more than 80% of Taiwan's calla lily production; the flowering period runs from January to May each year, with the peak bloom occurring in March and April. The calla lilies in Zhuzi Lake are primarily white, and the elegant spathes are not the flowers themselves; numerous inconspicuous small flowers bloom on the yellow spadix in the center, with male and female flowers separated and orderly arranged. During the calla lily season, on holidays (including weekends), traffic direction measures will be implemented in a clockwise one-way system heading from Hetian Bridge west along the Calla Lily Avenue, which will remain one-way until the junction at Zhongzheng Mountain; additionally, the eastward section from Hetian Bridge to Huzhong will allow bidirectional traffic, while the Dinghu section will have one-way traffic with no U-turns, directing traffic towards the newly established stone-paved road leading to Yangjin Highway. The traffic control in the Zhuzi Lake area will be in effect on holidays from 9 AM to 6 PM, with flexible adjustments based on actual traffic volume. Given the limited road width in the Zhuzi Lake area, it is recommended that visitors utilize public transportation systems, including the MRT and buses. Relevant public transport information can be found on the Taipei City Transportation Department website. There are 6 calla lily trails for you to explore.
