Zhuzihu Calla Lily Festival Introduction
The calla lily, originally from South Africa, is named because its spathes bloom in a shape resembling upside-down horseshoes, and the plants grow in water like lotus flowers. Currently, the area of the calla lily fields in Bamboo Lake covers approximately 13 hectares, accounting for over 80% of the total calla lily production in Taiwan. The calla lily flowering season is from January to May each year, with the peak bloom period occurring from March to April. The calla lilies in Bamboo Lake are primarily white, with the elegant "spadix" that appears white not being the actual flower; instead, numerous small flowers bloom on the yellow spadix, with separate male and female flowers organized in an orderly manner. During the calla lily season, on weekends (including holidays), traffic management measures will be implemented for one-way clockwise traffic from the west of Lutianc Bridge towards Calla Lily Avenue, and the one-way traffic regulation on Calla Lily Avenue will extend to the intersection of Zhongzheng Mountain; additionally, the section from Lutianc Bridge to Donghu Road will allow two-way traffic, while the Dinghu section will be one-way and prohibit U-turns, with traffic directed to leave via the newly constructed slate road towards Yangjin Highway. The traffic control in the Bamboo Lake area is implemented during holiday weekends from 9 AM to 6 PM and will be adjusted flexibly based on actual traffic conditions. Due to the limited road width in the Bamboo Lake area, it is recommended that visitors use public transportation, such as the metro or buses, to visit. Relevant public transportation information can be found on the Taipei City Transportation Bureau website. There are six calla lily trails waiting for you to explore. If you want to stretch your legs, the Taipei City Public Works Department recommends six riverside trails in Bamboo Lake. To enjoy the expansive calla lily fields, the grand scenery of Xiao Youkeng, and the sight of herons and small terraced fields, you can head to the "Dinghu Circular Trail" in the Dinghu area, which has a gentle and easy walking path suitable for all ages, taking approximately 20 minutes. If you are interested in early farming waterwheels and ecological pools, you can visit the "Calla Lily Circular Trail" in the Xiaohu area, which also takes about 20 minutes to walk. For those who want to enjoy waterfalls and rocky areas, while admiring small hills and terraced landscapes, the "Literary Trail" in the Shuiwei area is quite suitable, with a walking time of about 10 minutes. For a higher vantage point overlooking the mountain slopes of calla lily terraces, it is recommended to visit the "Lake Bottom Circular Trail," which takes about 15 minutes to walk. As for the longest "Bamboo Lake Circular Trail," it enters Donghu, Dinghu, Shuiwei, and Xiaohu from Lutianc Bridge, taking approximately 50 minutes to walk while enjoying the scenic beauty of Bamboo Lake along the way. Additionally, there is the "Calla Love Path," which takes about 15 minutes to walk. From March to May, you can see calla lilies bloom; from April to June, enjoy love flowers; and from May to August, there are hydrangeas, with different seasonal surprises. Visitors going uphill to admire the flowers are reminded that during the calla lily season on holiday weekends (including the Children's Day holiday), traffic control will be implemented in the surrounding areas of Bamboo Lake, and it is suggested to take public transport up the mountain.
