Yangming Shuwu Introduction

Yangming Shuwu, originally named Zhongxing Guest House, was constructed between 1969 and 1970. It served as a place for former President Chiang Kai-shek to host domestic and foreign dignitaries as well as a summer retreat. This was the only guesthouse he personally chose to build in Taiwan. Today, it has become an important cultural heritage site and environmental education venue within Yangmingshan National Park, providing various services such as visitor consultations and guided tours. The Yangming Shuwu is located on Zhongxing Road and covers an area of approximately 15 hectares. It was originally a natural forest managed by the Yangmingshan National Park and was once a camping area for the Boy Scouts. After the completion of the Zhongxing Guest House and its associated buildings in 1970, some forest areas were preserved. In 1979, the Central Party History Committee of the Kuomintang moved its office here, consolidating historical materials from Nantou's Caotun and Qingtan, along with those from Daxi Archive and Zhishan Shuwu, to facilitate research for both domestic and foreign scholars. Since then, the Zhongxing Guest House has been renamed "Yangming Shuwu." On September 26, 1997, the Kuomintang donated the above-ground buildings and management rights of Yangming Shuwu to the Ministry of the Interior, which established the Yangming Shuwu Management Station. It officially opened to the public on June 27, 1998, offering services such as recreational consultations, guided tours of the Zhongxing Guest House, film screenings, and model displays.
