Yangming Shuwu Introduction
Yang Ming Shuwu, originally known as Zhongxing Guest House, was constructed between 1969 and 1970 and served as a place for former President Chiang Kai-shek to host domestic and foreign dignitaries as well as a summer retreat. It is the only guest house that he personally chose to build in Taiwan. Today, it has become an important historical site and environmental education area within Yangmingshan National Park, offering visitors consultation and guided tours among various services, making it a place for both natural and cultural, intellectual and emotional experiences. Yang Ming Shuwu is located on Zhongxing Road, covering approximately 15 hectares. It was originally a natural forest and is under the jurisdiction of the Yangmingshan Administration as a forest park, which once served as a camping area for the Scouts. After the completion of Zhongxing Guest House and its ancillary buildings in 1970, part of the forest area was preserved. In 1979, the Central Party History Committee of the Kuomintang moved its office here and centralized historical materials from Nantou Caotun, Qingtan, along with those from the Daxi Resource Center and Zhishan Shuwu for domestic and foreign scholars to study and consult. Since then, Zhongxing Guest House has been renamed Yang Ming Shuwu. On September 26, 1997, the Kuomintang donated the above-ground buildings and management rights of Yang Ming Shuwu to the Ministry of the Interior, which then transferred it for management, establishing the Yang Ming Shuwu Management Station. It officially opened to the public on June 27, 1998, providing services such as recreational consultations, guided tours of Zhongxing Guest House, film screenings, and model displays.
