Yangming Shuwu Introduction
Originally known as the "Chung Hsing Guesthouse," the "Yangming Shuwu" was built between 1969 and 1970. It served as a place for former President Chiang Kai-shek to host domestic and foreign dignitaries and as a summer retreat. This was the only guesthouse personally selected and constructed by him in Taiwan. Today, it is an important cultural heritage site and environmental education area within Yangmingshan National Park, providing visitors with consultation and guided tours, among other services. It is a place that combines nature with culture, intellect with sensibility, making it an ideal spot for recreational visits. Yangming Shuwu is located on Zhongxing Road and covers an area of approximately 15 hectares. Initially a natural forest, it was governed by the Yangmingshan Administration as a forest park and formerly served as a campsite for the Scouts. After the Chung Hsing Guesthouse and its associated buildings were completed in 1970, part of the forest area was preserved. In 1979, the Central Party History Committee of the Kuomintang moved its office here, centralizing historical materials from Nantou's Caotun and Qingtan, along with information from the Daxi Resource Room and Zhishan Shuwu’s "Presidential Historical Materials," for the convenience of scholars, both domestic and international. Since then, the Chung Hsing Guesthouse has been renamed "Yangming Shuwu." On September 26, 1997, the Kuomintang donated the surface buildings and management rights of Yangming Shuwu to the Ministry of the Interior, which transferred management to this office, establishing the Yangming Shuwu Management Station. The site officially opened to the public on June 27, 1998, providing visitors with recreational consultation, guided tours of the Chung Hsing Guesthouse, video displays, model exhibitions, and other services.
