Wang Da-Hong Theater Introduction

Wang Da-hong Architectural Theater was originally located in the private residence of architect Wang Da-hong in an alley on Jianguo South Road, which has now been demolished. In 2017, it was reconstructed by the "Wang Da-hong Architectural Research and Preservation Association" and relocated to the art park south of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum. It was donated to the Taipei City Government for research and educational promotion. In 2018, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum launched its operations in the form of the "Wang Da-hong Architectural Theater," hoping to serve as a key base for audiences to understand Wang Da-hong and his residence, while also becoming an experimental platform for promoting Taiwan's architectural history and introducing architectural aesthetics. The "Wang Da-hong Architectural Theater," initiated by the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, incorporates both "architecture" and "theater." It can be interpreted as "theater (architecture itself as a means of enacting life)" or "architecture" as a verb, meaning "to build (a) theater." Here, "theater" differs from the general understanding of a physical space with a stage, seats, actors, and audience; conceptually, it is closer to constructing a space different from the real world, allowing the audience to enter and experience it firsthand, thereby creating a unique viewing experience. The Wang Da-hong Book House DH Café is located next to the "Wang Da-hong Architectural Theater," offering a combination of architectural and artistic readings, light meals, along with mini-exhibitions and themed salon lectures. It aims to recreate the elegance and professionalism of the architect's study, showcasing a rich tapestry of humanistic gatherings and fluid thoughts in the residence's hall.
