Wang Da-Hong Theatre Introduction

The Wang Da-hong Architecture Theater was once located in the alley of Jianguo South Road, in the former residence of architect Wang Da-hong, which has since been demolished. In 2017, the "Wang Da-hong Architecture Research and Preservation Society" recreated it at the art park south of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum and donated it to the Taipei City Government for research and educational promotion. In 2018, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum launched operations in the form of the "Wang Da-hong Architecture Theater," hoping it would serve as a key venue for audiences to understand Wang Da-hong and his former residence, as well as become a platform for promoting the history of architecture in Taiwan and introducing architectural aesthetics. The "Wang Da-hong Architecture Theater," initiated by the North Museum, incorporates both "architecture" and "theater," which can be interpreted as "architecture (as a theater for performing life itself)" or as a verb, meaning "to construct (a) theater." Here, "theater" differs from the general understanding of a physical space with a stage, seating, actors, and audience; conceptually, it is closer to constructing a space that is different from the real world, allowing audiences to enter and personally experience it, thereby creating a unique viewing experience. The Wang Da-hong Study Café, located next to the "Wang Da-hong Architecture Theater," is a multi-functional cultural and artistic space that offers selected architectural and art reading materials, light meals, and combines mini-exhibitions and themed salon lectures, aiming to recreate the elegance and professionalism of an architect's study and the rich landscape of cultural gatherings and flowing thoughts in the residence's hall.
