Zhongxing Village, Changhua Introduction
Dreams Built in the Hometown: Zhongxing Village Established in 1950, Zhongxing Village is located at the foot of Bagua Mountain. Most of the first-generation residents were soldiers and family members of General Gao Fangxian from the Shandong Qingdao Security Brigade, who migrated from Shandong Qingdao to Taiwan, settled down in Zhongxing Village, and persevered through tumultuous times while passing down the indomitable spirit of the nation. To preserve this glorious history, the Changhua County Government has been dedicated to promoting cultural heritage. Since 2009, they have undertaken research into the historical trajectory of Zhongxing Village. In 2010, Zhongxing Village was successfully registered as a historical building in Changhua County, making it the only completely preserved military dependents' village in the area. In 2012, it was selected by the Ministry of National Defense as a cultural preservation zone for military dependents' villages. In 2021, it was re-registered as a settlement architectural group. After the completion of the first phase of the plaza and environment improvement project in October 2022, the Changhua County Cultural Affairs Bureau implemented a public-interest rental model to revitalize the area, providing six units in four buildings as entrepreneurial spaces for young people. This officially opened for business in January 2023, integrating surrounding landscapes and local industry characteristics to greet local residents and visitors in a fresh new look. The second phase of the overall restoration project is expected to be completed by 2025, with the hope of allowing the history of the military dependents' village to continue to flourish and showcase the essence of Changhua.
