1895 Baguashan Anti-Japanese Movement Memorial Hall Introduction
In memory of the fierce battles during the 1895 "Baguashan Anti-Japanese Incident," where the people of Taiwan resisted the Japanese military, the Changhua County Government has created a new recreational theme for the Baguashan Buddha Scenic Area by establishing a war history site. Through small space exhibitions, the memory of the historical battles of Baguashan is revived. The area utilizes the landscape of the park and the long-closed air raid shelters, transforming and repurposing these spaces. The exhibition hall is divided to provide explanations about the First Sino-Japanese War, the Sino-French War, and the Baguashan Campaign, presented through panels and audiovisual materials. The unique spatial experience in the tunnels allows visitors to feel the tension and oppression of war, enhancing the overall experience. Visitors can enter the air raid shelter to feel the atmosphere of seeking refuge during wartime and personally experience the tense atmosphere of the Japanese troops crossing the creek in the silent night. This prompts deep reflection on the meaning and consequences of war. The exhibition hall is located behind the Changhua County Library.
