1895 Baguashan Anti-Japanese Resistance Museum Introduction
To commemorate the fierce battle of the "Battle of Bagua Mountain" in 1895, where the people of Taiwan resisted Japanese troops, the Changhua County Government has created a new recreational theme for the Bagua Mountain Buddha Scenic Area based on the concept of a war historic site. Through small-scale displays, the project aims to awaken the memory of historical battles in Bagua Mountain. By transforming and repurposing the area's landscape as well as long-unused air raid shelters, an exhibition hall has been set up to provide explanations about the First Sino-Japanese War, the 1895 Taiwan Uprising, and the Battle of Bagua Mountain. The exhibits include panels and audio-visual displays, which, along with the unique spatial experience of the tunnels, create an atmosphere of tension and oppression felt during war, enhancing the visitors' immersive experience. Visitors can enter the air raid shelter to feel the circumstances of seeking refuge during the chaos of war and can also experience the tense atmosphere as Japanese troops crossed the stream at night under the cover of darkness. This setting encourages reflection on the significance and consequences of war. The exhibition hall is located behind the Changhua County Library.
