Changhua County National Defense Education Attraction Introduction
The 1895 Baguashan Anti-Japanese Resistance Museum tells a story intertwined with blood and tears. On August 1, 1894, the Qing Dynasty and the Japanese government officially went to war over the Korean issue. It is estimated that the Qing Dynasty mobilized 600,000 troops, while Japan deployed 240,000 soldiers. The two nations engaged in a world-shocking land and naval battle along the Yalu River and in the Yellow Sea. Due to the outdated equipment and insufficient training of the Qing army, the proud Beiyang Fleet and the 35th Army disintegrated and suffered heavy casualties from the start of the conflict, known as the First Sino-Japanese War.

The process of the Japanese government's reception and governance of Taiwan was not as smooth as expected. When the people of Taiwan, three thousand kilometers away, learned that they had been sacrificed by China, they were furious and could not accept the Qing Dynasty government's sentiment that "Taiwan, while important, is lighter than the capital." After continuous protests and petitions, the people of Taiwan gradually came to realize the harsh reality and decided to resist. "The Taiwanese people will unite to resist; we would rather die in battle than hand over Taiwan," stated the unwillingness of the Taiwanese to be ruled by a foreign power. Determined not to be subjugated, the people of Taiwan began their path of resistance from north to south after May 29, 1895, regardless of age… This period of history was adapted into a film.
