Changhua County National Defense Education Scenic Area Introduction
The 1895 BaGua Mountain Anti-Japanese Museum is a site that tells a story intertwined with blood and tears. On August 1, 1894, the Qing Dynasty and the Japanese government officially went to war over the issue of Korea. It is estimated that the Qing government deployed 600,000 troops, while Japan sent 240,000. The two countries engaged in a significant land and naval war along the Yalu River and in the Yellow Sea, capturing the world's attention. Due to the Qing army's outdated equipment and insufficient training, the once-proud Beiyang Fleet and the 35th Army suffered heavy losses from the onset of the conflict, a war referred to as the First Sino-Japanese War.
The air raid shelter transformed into a historic museum
The process by which the Japanese government received and governed Taiwan was not as smooth as expected. When the people of Taiwan, three thousand kilometers away, learned that they had been sacrificed by China, they were outraged and could not accept the Qing Dynasty's helplessness in stating that "Taiwan is important, but compared to the capital, Taiwan is light." After continuous protests and petitions, the people of Taiwan gradually came to terms with reality and decided to resist on their own. "The Taiwanese people can only unite to resist; we would rather sacrifice our lives than give up Taiwan," declared the unwillingness of the Taiwanese to be ruled by foreign powers. They resolved to consolidate their strength and, after May 29, 1895, began their path of resistance from north to south, regardless of age… This historical period was filmed into a movie.
