Taipei Bridge Introduction
In August 1889, the first Governor-General of Taiwan, Liu Ming-chuan, completed the construction of a bridge that connected Sanchongpu (now Sanchong District) with Taipei Dadaocheng Wharf. In 1895, the bridge was named Tamsui Bridge, which served as an important transshipment port for the Dalongdong and Dadaocheng areas at that time. On February 27, 1947, the Taimai Teahouse incident regarding smuggled cigarettes occurred, leading to a protest that gathered at the current head of the Taipei Bridge on the following day, February 28.
