Taipei Bridge Introduction

In August 1889, the first Governor of Taiwan, Liu Ming-chuan, completed the construction of a bridge that connected Sanchongpu (present-day Sanchong District) and Taipei Dadaocheng Pier. In 1895, this bridge was named Tamsui Bridge and was an important transshipment port for the area around Dalongdong and Dadaocheng at that time. On February 27, 1947, the Tianma Tea House incident occurred regarding smuggled cigarettes, leading to protests that began at the head of the current Taipei Bridge on February 28.
