Taipei Bridge Introduction

In August 1889, the first Governor of Taiwan, Liu Mingchuan, completed the construction of the bridge, connecting Sanchongpu (now Sanchong District) and Dadaocheng Wharf in Taipei. In 1895, the bridge was named Danshui Bridge, and at that time, it served as an important transshipment port in the area of Dalongdong and Dadaocheng. On February 27, 1947, the Tianma Teahouse smuggling incident occurred, and the following day, on February 28, protests were initiated, gathering at the current head of Taipei Bridge to start the march.
