Taipei Bridge Introduction

Completed in August 1889 by the first Governor-General of Taiwan, Liu Ming-chuan, it connected San Chong Pu (now San Chong District) with the Dadaocheng Wharf in Taipei. In 1895, the bridge was named Tamsui Bridge and was an important transit port in the area of Dalongdong and Dadaocheng at that time. On February 27, 1947, the Tianma Tea House incident involving smuggled cigarettes occurred, and the following day, February 28, protests were launched, gathering at the head of the current Taipei Bridge to start the march.
