Kuo Yi-mei Bookstore Introduction
Guo Yimei Bookstore is located on Dihua Street in Dadaocheng and is a century-old building with three floors in the front and two floors in the back, containing over 30,000 items, making it the independent bookstore with the largest variety of books in Taiwan. The builder of this century-old house was the grandfather of the bookstore's founder, Mr. Guo Wulong. The Guo family started in Dadaocheng a hundred years ago and, after experiencing changes over time, all members left Dadaocheng by the third generation. However, Mr. Guo Chongxing from the third generation ventured into the publishing industry and, after achieving success, rented back his grandfather's original house in 2022, opening Guo Yimei Bookstore under the name of the original business. Established during the pandemic, Guo Yimei Bookstore is book-centric and believes in the purity of books, thus housing a large collection of books and valuing reading. The selection of books, display, and numerous reading-related activities are the main reasons why the bookstore has received public recognition and praise. The mission of Guo Yimei Bookstore is to connect the community and promote reading. In the Dadaocheng area, it connects with the Xia Hai City God Temple and local businesses to jointly promote Dadaocheng walking tours and historical lectures, as well as connect with elementary schools in Taipei and New Taipei, inviting elementary students to visit the bookstore and gifting them a book of their choice, hoping to spark their reading experience. Additionally, the bookstore collaborates extensively with publishers, galleries, artists, and creators to hold concerts, art exhibitions, photography exhibitions, new book sharing sessions, creative exhibitions, themed exhibitions, and night tours, organizing nearly 150 events annually, making Guo Yimei Bookstore a cultural and artistic center in the community. Guo Yimei Bookstore hopes to carry the history of a century-old business into the future, creating a century-old bookstore, continuing cultural traditions and transforming the landscape of reading, while emphasizing meaningful inheritance and a connection between books and people. It aims to become a cultural base, attracting readers interested in history, art, culture, knowledge, and aesthetics, while inviting our next generation to the bookstore to naturally immerse themselves in the cultural atmosphere and develop a love for reading, which is our mission.
