Guoye Viewing Tower Introduction
Guoya Village has recently become a famous spot for watching the sunrise, located in the eastern part of Huxi Township, it is a quaint little fishing village. "Guoya" is a common name for a plant, scientifically known as "Hibiscus tiliaceus." As early as the Ming Dynasty, there was a vast expanse of lush Guoya trees here, making it one of the villages in Penghu named after a plant. The sunrise at Guoya is renowned, comparable to the sunset at Xiyu, with a small hill in the northeast of the village serving as the best spot to enjoy the sunrise. Every year during the winter solstice, the ancestral worship activities of the Hsu family in Guoya Village preserve the traditional "soft banquet" customs, closely interacting with the old Kui Bi Ao village community, and the remnants of the old brick kiln in the village add to Guoya's rustic charm. In this small village, there are numerous great spots to watch the sunrise. Unlike the layered sea of clouds at high mountains, the sun in the morning seems to bounce out of the water, casting red hues that reflect various shades of red, showcasing the tranquil beauty of the Guoya sunrise. Both "Guoya Sunrise" and "Xiyu Sunset" are two of the most famous scenic spots in Penghu. If you plan to watch the sunrise at Guoya, it is recommended to check the sunrise time the night before and allow for travel time, as the sunrise lasts for a very short period. Be sure to set out early to avoid getting up in the middle of the night from the warm bed only to come back empty-handed! Pro tip: Standing by the sea in Guoya and gazing eastward when the sun rises, due to the refraction of light and clouds, you may often see an image resembling a mirage of a mountain city.
