Wang-An Green Sea Turtle Conservation Center Introduction
Near the Tammen Harbor, there stands a building resembling a sea turtle on the southeast side of Wang'an Island. Inside the facility, the natural ecology of Wang'an is on full display, featuring migratory birds and conservation species, with the most important being the Green Sea Turtle. Exhibits include characteristics and distribution habitats of the turtle species, as well as the folk blessing activity related to the turtles called "Shang Yuan Qi Gui." Notably, a stone tablet inscribed with "Hao Shan Tang" stands at the entrance of the exhibition hall. The inscription records how local gentry raised funds 130 years ago to protect sea turtles and farm oxen, stating that rewards would be given to residents who showed compassion for life, while severe penalties would be imposed on violators, demonstrating a balance of grace and authority. Today, this inscription serves as significant testimony to early ancestors' commitment to the conservation of sea turtle ecology. Upon entering the Green Sea Turtle Conservation Center, the first sight is the exhibition hall, with a multimedia briefing room on the right. Eco-documentaries about Green Sea Turtles are played on the hour from 10 AM to 4 PM daily, and groups of more than 10 can book guided tours, making learning and visiting an intellectually engaging journey.
