Wang'an Green Turtle Conservation Center Introduction
Next to Tanmen Harbor, there is a building resembling a sea turtle, standing in the southeastern part of Wang-an Island. Upon entering the center, visitors can observe the rich natural ecology of Wang-an, featuring migratory birds and protected species. The most important highlight is the "green sea turtle." The exhibits include information on identifying the characteristics and habitats of this turtle species, as well as its connection to the local folk prayer activity known as "Shangyuan Qigu." Notably, at the entrance of the exhibition hall stands the "Haoshantang" stone tablet, which records that 130 years ago, local gentry in Wang-an raised funds to protect sea turtles and farming oxen. The inscription states that residents were financially rewarded for showing compassion towards life, and violators were to be heavily fined with the approval of the authorities, striking a balance between reward and punishment. This inscription now serves as an important testament to the early efforts of ancestors in conserving sea turtle ecology. Upon entering the Green Sea Turtle Conservation Center, visitors are greeted by the exhibition hall. On the right is the audiovisual briefing room, where ecological films about green sea turtles are screened on the hour every day from 10 AM to 4 PM. Groups of 10 or more can also make reservations for guided tours, making the learning and visiting experience an intellectually engaging journey. For information related to sea turtles, visit the friendly sea turtle viewing area on the Ocean Conservation Administration website.
