Hujing West Mountain Park Introduction
Hujing Island is divided into Dongshan and Xishan, with villages located in the flat area between the two mountains. Dongshan is currently a military restricted area and is not open to the public. After the military withdrawal, Xishan was transformed into Hujing Xishan Park. The most eye-catching feature of Xishan Park is a large statue of Guanyin made of white marble, along with eighteen distinct Arhats. This Guanyin statue was donated by compatriots living in Hong Kong to their hometown Hujing and was carved by craftsmen from China. The expressions and lines of the clothing are very vivid. Initially, due to the enormous size of the Guanyin statue, it could not be transported directly and was sent in three parts, then reassembled in Hujing! While walking in Xishan Park, one might encounter many agaves, which are drought-resistant and adaptable. They are often seen in Penghu, but the edges of agave leaves are very sharp. In the past, agaves were even planted along the coastline for defensive purposes. Hujing is also famous for its three treasures: centipede liquor, cactus juice, and fresh fish soup. Hujing is known for producing large red-footed centipedes, and legend has it that centipede liquor is very effective for treating rheumatism and skin diseases. However, due to regulations in the Tobacco and Alcohol Administration Act, homemade liquor can only be used for personal consumption, so the once-popular centipede liquor is no longer available for purchase, but cactus juice and fresh fish soup are still worth tasting!
