Hujing West Mountain Park Introduction
Hujing Island is divided into Dongshan and Xishan, with the village located in a flat area between the two mountains. Dongshan is currently a military-controlled area and is not open to the public, while Xishan has been transformed into Hujing Xishan Park after the military withdrew. Among the most striking features in Xishan Park is a large statue of Guanyin made of white marble and eighteen Arhats, each with different expressions. This Guanyin statue was donated by fellow villagers living in Hong Kong back to their hometown Hujing and was carved by a master from China. The facial expressions and the lines of the clothing are very vivid. Initially, due to its enormous size, the statue could not be transported directly and had to be disassembled into three parts for transport to Hujing before being reassembled! While walking in Xishan Park, you may come across many agaves, as agaves are drought-resistant and adaptable. They can often be seen in Penghu. However, the edges of agave leaves are very sharp, and in the past, agaves were even planted along the coastline for defensive purposes. Hujing is also famous for its three treasures: centipede wine, cactus juice, and fresh fish soup. Hujing produces large red-footed centipedes, and it is said that centipede wine is very effective for treating rheumatism and skin diseases. However, due to the regulations of the tobacco and alcohol management laws, homemade alcohol can only be used for personal use, so the once-popular centipede wine is now no longer available for purchase. Nevertheless, you can still enjoy cactus juice and fresh fish soup!
