Hujing West Mountain Park Introduction
Hujing Island is divided into East Mountain and West Mountain, with the village located in the flat area between the two mountains. East Mountain is currently a military restricted zone and is not open to the public, while West Mountain has been transformed into Hujing West Mountain Park after the military withdrawal. The most striking feature of West Mountain Park is a large white jade Guanyin statue and eighteen Arhats, each with different expressions. This Guanyin statue was donated by hometown compatriots residing in Hong Kong and was carved by a craftsman from China. The expressions and the contours of the clothing are very vivid. Initially, the statue was too large to be transported in one piece, so it was shipped in three sections and reassembled in Hujing! While strolling through West Mountain Park, you may encounter many agaves, as they are drought-resistant and adaptable, often seen in Penghu. However, the leaf edges of agaves are quite sharp, and in the past, they were even planted along coastlines for defensive purposes. Hujing is also famous for its three treasures: centipede wine, cactus juice, and fresh fish soup. Hujing is abundant in large red-footed centipedes, and it is said that centipede wine is very effective in treating rheumatism and skin diseases. However, the Tobacco and Alcohol Management Act stipulates that homemade alcohol can only be for personal use, so the once-popular centipede wine is no longer available for purchase, but you can still taste cactus juice and fresh fish soup!
