Originally the Checheng Elementary School, it was closed in 2015 due to declining birth rates. After being vacant for years and with limited space at the existing visitor center, the Railway Bureau and the community collaborated to revitalize the school building and establish the Railway Elementary School and the new Checheng Visitor Center to enhance tourism services. The spacious school playground will serve as a bus turnaround area.
