Mingtan Reservoir Introduction
Mingtan Reservoir is located in the Shuili Creek Valley at the boundary of Shuili Township and Yuchi Township, beside Route 131. It is an artificial lake built utilizing the terrain of the Shuili Creek Valley to store the tailwater from Sun Moon Lake's hydropower generation. The Mingtan and Minghu Reservoirs, located in Checheng Village, are environmentally friendly "pumped-storage power plants" constructed for hydropower generation. The power plant utilizes elevation differences for pumped-storage generation, allowing for self-adjustment of power supply during peak and off-peak times, and it is pollution-free. The lower pool dam of Mingtan Reservoir is a concrete gravity dam, and the reservoir features a crescent-shaped water area with a storage capacity of 12 million cubic meters. The water level changes by 28 meters daily, creating a unique tidal phenomenon in the lake. During dawn, clouds and mist weave around, creating an otherworldly atmosphere. The lake surface is positioned below the road, so whether viewing the lake scenery from above the road or visiting the lakeside, one can deeply appreciate the tranquil and leisurely ambiance characterized by the clear mountains and waters.
