Monkey Bridge Introduction
Monkey Exploring Well Recreation Area, located in Fushan Village, Nantou City, is a famous attraction in the Bagua Mountain Scenic Area. The valley terrain resembles a well, and in front of the valley stands a small peak that looks like a monkey squatting and gazing into the well, hence the name - Monkey Exploring Well. The Bagua Mountain Range spans Nantou and Changhua, with two hiking trails on top. One trail connects to a viewing pavilion in the tea garden, while the other connects to the observation platform at Monkey Exploring Well. Originally a valley between the two, it is now linked by a sky bridge, which not only enhances convenience but also serves as a highlight of the recreation area. The park features beautiful garden pathways and landscaped corridors, with an observation tower at the end of the area, offering a distant view of the beautiful scenery of the Changhua Plain. Inside the tower, there is a well that lets visitors experience the situation of a monkey exploring a well. The sky bridge spans across the valley of Monkey Exploring Well, making it the longest sky ladder in Taiwan and the first ladder suspension bridge in the country, measuring 204 meters in length with 265 steps, and a height difference of 5.65 meters at both ends. The bridge can accommodate up to 150 people and offers excellent views of the Changhua Plain. On clear days, one can also see the Xiluo Bridge and the mouth of the Zhuoshui River, presenting spectacular sights. As the sun sets, the sky bridge transforms, with LED lights automatically illuminating, creating a charming sight that resembles a smile hanging in the dim mountains, hence its nickname "Smiling Ladder." On the other side of the suspension bridge, there is a scenic platform that, though not at a high point, still serves as a great spot for observing the sunset. Monkey Exploring Well Recreation Area is also lovingly referred to as "Sunset Valley." If your visit coincides with sunset, it's advisable to find a good spot, pause, and enjoy the beautiful golden scenery cast by the afterglow. In addition to the famous unique sky ladder attracting crowds, the recreation area also has parking lots and a visitor service center, making travel to this destination more convenient.
