Songmao Village - Deer Trail Introduction
Located next to the Matsu Sub-District of Lishan, the Shoulu Trail used to be a hunting ground for the hunters of the Matsu community. It preserves a very well-maintained ecology and boasts diverse and rich landscapes, making it a hidden gem in Lishan! The trail offers seasonal beauty and abundant ecology, situated adjacent to the upper reaches of the Dajia River. With its gentle slope and ample shade, it is an easy and enjoyable hike. Throughout the year, the Shoulu Trail presents different natural scenery, with stunning maple leaf views in autumn, when the maple trees are adorned in vibrant orange and red, adding a romantic touch to this hidden journey. In addition, there is a unique natural carpet of pine needles along the trail, formed from layers of fallen needles from surrounding pine trees over many years, creating a springy ground that resembles a carpet, making this feature quite distinctive. The Shoulu Trail is also an important area for the conservation of wildlife such as the Formosan serow and cherry salmon, highlighting its ecological diversity. Another remarkable feature of the Shoulu Trail is the columnar shale rock walls, reminiscent of the columnar basalt found in Penghu. These stunning formations were shaped by the pressure of orogeny and years of erosion by the Dajia River, showcasing the incredible artistry of nature. From the Ren Shou Bridge along the trail, visitors can easily admire the shale rock walls alongside the rolling mountains and the beautiful interplay of blue skies and white clouds. Exploring the culture of the Atayal community, the Shoulu Trail has always been part of the Matsu tribe's activity area, allowing visitors to feel the rich Atayal atmosphere throughout. Along the trail, one can find remnants of over a hundred-year-old Atayal houses. By visiting the community, you can participate in traditional craft workshops and taste authentic tribal cuisine, experiencing the beautiful and unique culture of the Atayal people firsthand.
