Elephant Mountain Introduction
The landmark of Xiding. With an elevation of about 1,050 meters, it resembles a giant elephant when viewed from the Xiding area, with its head, trunk, and back vividly depicted. According to local experience, in the past, whenever the weather was good and one heard a rumbling sound from Elephant Mountain, it was an indication that the weather might change for the worse; conversely, if the weather was bad and one heard the rumbling sound, it suggested that the weather would improve. This phenomenon was caused by geological movements on the mountain, which made falling rocks easy to roll. Nowadays, as most of the falling rocks have settled, such occurrences are rare. Others say it is because there are too many vehicles, creating too much noise, making it hard to hear the sound of falling rocks.
