The Xudong Trail is located in the Kuan Tian Village of Fanlu Township, at the 57.5K mark of Taiwan Route 18, next to Meiyuan Building. Alishan is renowned for its sunrise both domestically and internationally; in the past, one had to trek a long distance to watch the sunrise at Zhu Mountain. However, the viewing platform at Xudong Trail offers a spectacular and expansive view that rivals Zhu Mountain, and it only requires half the hike since the relative position of the sunrise is similar, with the sunrise time only a few seconds later than that of Zhu Mountain. For those who do not want to hike long distances, Xudong Trail is indeed a good choice. The Xudong Trail is approximately 700 meters long, with a round trip taking about 40 minutes. The trail's ecosystem is primarily composed of Moso bamboo forests, where the sounds of birds and cicadas greet visitors. Along the way, there are three wooden resting pavilions, which serve as comfortable observation spots, especially the pavilion at the entrance which is at the highest point, offering a broad view of the surrounding mountains, making it an excellent location for watching the sunrise and enjoying cloud waterfalls. It is also the best choice for couples to leisurely stroll and for family outings.
