Xiangshan Trail Introduction
Coast Mountain Trail is located in the village of Koutou, Fanlu Township, at the 57.5 km mark of Taiwan Route 18, right beside Meiyuan Pavilion. The sunrise in Alishan is famous both domestically and internationally, and in the past, one had to undertake a long journey to Zhu Mountain to enjoy the sunrise. In fact, the observation platform on Coast Mountain Trail offers a spectacular and expansive view that is on par with Zhu Mountain, but only requires half the uphill distance, as the relative position of the sunrise is similar, with the sunrise time just a few seconds later than at Zhu Mountain. For those who do not wish to walk a long distance, Coast Mountain Trail is a great option. The trail is approximately 700 meters long, with a round trip taking about 40 minutes. The trail features a bamboo forest primarily of Moso bamboo, with the sounds of birds chirping and cicadas singing welcoming visitors. Along the way, there are three wooden pavilions for resting, providing a comfortable viewing stage, especially the pavilion at the entrance, which is the highest point with a broad view of the surrounding mountains. It is an excellent spot for watching the sunrise and enjoying the sea of clouds, making it the best choice for couples taking leisurely walks and families on outings.
