Located at the 57.5K mark on Taiwan Highway 18, next to the Mei Garden Building, the "Fengding Trail" is a hidden gem for sunrise viewing. If the sunrise at Zhu Mountain is a magnificent pilgrimage, then Fengding Trail is a favorite for a more casual and enjoyable sunrise experience. The sunrise at Alishan is world-renowned, but traditionally, one would have to trek long distances to Zhu Mountain to witness it. In reality, the Fengding Trail located in Fanglu Township's Gongtian Village offers a vantage point that is just as breathtaking as Zhu Mountain, with the sunrise occurring just a few seconds later. For travelers who do not wish to navigate in the dark before dawn, this location provides an excellent alternative that requires only half the distance to Zhu Mountain, yet the views remain equally stunning. The trail is approximately 700 meters long, making it a leisurely path suitable for all ages, requiring just 40 minutes for a round trip. As you stroll along, you are surrounded by tall, lush bamboo groves, with the unique sounds of birds and cicadas echoing through the forest. The well-designed trail features three wooden pavilions along the way, which not only serve as resting spots but also as comfortable stages for enjoying nature. The pavilion at the entrance of the trail marks the highest point here, offering an incredibly expansive view that encompasses the entire surrounding area.
