The Xudong Trail is located in Kuan-tian Village, Fanlu Township, at the 57.5 km mark of Provincial Highway 18, right next to Meiyuan Pavilion. Known for its stunning sunrises, Alishan has historically required a long trek to watch the sunrise at Zhu Mountain. However, the viewing platform at Xudong Trail offers a spectacular and expansive view that rivals Zhu Mountain, with only half the distance to hike. The sunrise position is nearly the same, and the time of sunrise is only a few seconds later than that at Zhu Mountain. For those who wish to avoid a long journey, the Xudong Trail is indeed a great option. The Xudong Trail is approximately 700 meters long, with a round-trip taking about 40 minutes. The trail features a primary ecosystem of Moso bamboo forests, and the chirping of birds and the singing of cicadas welcome visitors. Along the way, there are three wooden pavilions for rest, which serve as comfortable viewing platforms. The pavilion at the entrance is at the highest point, offering a broad view of the surrounding mountains, making it an excellent spot for watching the sunrise and admiring cloud waterfalls. It is also a perfect choice for couples looking for a leisurely walk and for family outings.
