The Xudong Trail is located in Koutian Village, Fanlu Township, at kilometer 57.5 along Taiwan Highway 18, right next to the Meiyuan Pavilion. Alishan is famous for its sunrise, and in the past, people had to travel a long way to Zhu Mountain to enjoy it. However, the viewing platform of the Xudong Trail offers a magnificent and expansive view that is just as impressive as Zhu Mountain, with only half the hike to reach it, as the relative position for sunrise is similar, and the sunrise time is only a few seconds later than that of Zhu Mountain. For those who do not wish to embark on a long journey, the Xudong Trail is actually a great option. The trail is approximately 700 meters long, with a round trip taking about 40 minutes. The ecology along the trail is primarily composed of Moso bamboo forests, with the sounds of birds singing and cicadas chirping welcoming visitors along the way. There are three wooden pavilions for rest along the trail, providing a comfortable viewing stage; especially the pavilion at the entrance is the highest point, offering a vast view of the surrounding mountains, making it an ideal spot for sunrise viewing and cloud waterfall appreciation. It is also the best choice for couples looking for a leisurely stroll and for families on outings.
