Erjian Mountain Introduction
Erjian Mountain is located in Longyan Village, Meishan Township, Chiayi County. It is the subsidiary peak of Dajian Mountain, with an elevation of 1,274 meters. Starting from Zhuzi Ceng, hikers can walk along the ridgeline of Dajian Mountain, pass the first-class triangulation point at Dajian Mountain, which is 1,304 meters high, and then gradually descend to a great resting spot for mountaineers. Another trailhead is from behind Longxing Temple, climbing along the cypress wood path. Along the way, in addition to bamboo forests and cypress trees, one occasionally passes through tea gardens, each offering unique views. During the late autumn and early winter when cold air masses arrive, there is an opportunity to witness the vast sea of clouds, making the path akin to a paradise on earth. The main peak, Dajian Mountain, has an elevation of 1,299 meters and features a first-class triangulation point. These two points are located along the mountain ridge and are about a 15-minute walk apart. Towards the direction of Gukeng, one can overlook the Yunlin-Chiayi Plain and betel nut trees, while towards Meishan, there are views of valleys and tea gardens, with a distant view of Caoling, all offering excellent visibility. There are three main trailheads for ascending Dajian Mountain: 1. Huashan 10-5 Trailhead: Located in Huashan Village, Gukeng Township, Yunlin County, starting from Huashan Educational Farm at the 29-km mark of County Road 149, hikers take the 10-5 Trail, which features stone slab steps at the beginning and rocky terrain requiring the use of ropes in the latter half. The path is largely shaded by bamboo forests, but the gradient is steep, presenting a challenge. 2. Guizitou 4-1 Trailhead: Located in Huashan Village, Gukeng Township, Yunlin County, starting from Guizitou along Yunlin County Road 208, this route follows the 4-1 and 4-2 trails, going over Erjian Mountain and along the ridge to Dajian Mountain. It is the longest route with better trail conditions. 3. Zhuzi Ridge: Located in Longyan Village, Meishan Township, Chiayi County, this route is the shortest.
