Turtle Island Introduction
Guiwang Rock, located beside the Laonong River in Liugui District, is a majestic mountain rock that resembles a king turtle. It is accompanied by the growing yellow cedar trees nearby. According to local legend, in the riverbed beneath the Liugui Bridge, six rocks are scattered, which, when viewed from a distance, appear like six turtles floating in the river. Hence, the ancestors named this place "Liugui." The largest rock is referred to as Guiwang Rock, where a small shrine has been built for daily worship with offerings of cabbage and carrots, praying for the protection of the Guiwang from floods. After Typhoon Morakot, it still stands silently beside the Laonong River, watching over the residents of Liugui. A recommended stay of about 15 minutes allows for a simple worship act, along with a view of the surrounding scenery by the Laonong River.
