There are differing accounts regarding the founding year of Baozang Temple: it is said that Baozang Temple was originally a small temple dedicated to Guanyin Bodhisattva. A person from Chiayi brought a Mazu talisman from Quanzhou, which was said to possess significant divine power. It is rumored that during the first year of the Yongzheng era (1723), there was a severe plague in the Fenyuan area. At that time, the Mazu procession from Lugang temporarily stayed at Baozang Temple to treat the sick, which alleviated the suffering of the plague-stricken people. In the eleventh year of the Yongzheng era (1733), a local gentry named Xu Yangguang advocated for the reconstruction of the front hall and donated land, with the total cost amounting to 1,365 silver dollars. However, according to the records of Changhua County, Baozang Temple was publicly built by local villagers in the fiftieth year of the Qianlong era (1785).

Fen Yuan Treasure Temple Introduction

The county-designated historic site Treasure Temple is a temple building with three halls and double guardian dragons, primarily devoted to Guanyin Bodhisattva, with a long history.

The Treasure Temple originally featured a temple architecture layout of three openings, two close halls, and two corridors with double dragon protectors. The front hall has a broken eave and raised arrow holes, which carry significant meaning. The ridge decorations are particularly tall, differing from typical temples. The dragon and tiger wall on the Sanchuan Hall is made of clay sculpture, showcasing superb craftsmanship. The large timber structures and fine wood carvings in the temple exhibit the exquisite style of Cantonese craftsmanship, making it worthy of in-depth study.
