Taichung City Library Shangfeng Branch Introduction
The Shang Feng Branch Library is the first library in Taichung City focused on "environmental education" as its theme. It has also received the "Architecture and Landscape Award" and the "Excellence Award" in the Best Planning and Design category from the National Outstanding Construction Award in 2019. Located next to Shang Feng Elementary School, the library features a red brick exterior that echoes the nearby golden wheat fields and vibrant autumn leaves. With ecological grass ditches, native plantings, and a spatial design that connects internal and external circulation, it naturally integrates with the school and community, creating a beautiful space filled with the close interdependence between people and nature. The outdoor area of the library boasts a diverse ecological landscape, with plantings of herbaceous and nectar-producing plants that attract butterflies and bees, making it an excellent venue for promoting environmental education. The interior design of the library is understated and minimalist, enhancing the quality of the space, complemented by light, neutral furniture and decor. Through changes in natural light, readers can experience the rich spatial and environmental qualities of the building itself.
