Magu Golden Tortoise Head Lighthouse Introduction
The Jin Gui Tou Fort is located on the southwestern side of Magong Island, on the westernmost point of the Magong Peninsula, near the southwest gate of Magong City and southwest of Magong Bay, on Turtle Head Mountain. It is situated across from the eastern and western hills of She Tou Mountain, which used to be called "She Tou" in Da Shan Yu, and together they guard the entrance to Magong Port. Built in 1887 by General Wu Hongluo, it is equipped with a 7-inch, 10-inch, and 12-inch Armstrong rifled guns, making it one of the most powerful fortifications in the entire Penghu area alongside the West Islet East Fort and West Fort. This fort is one of the nine forts newly constructed by Liu Mingchuan and was built simultaneously with the East and West Forts on the West Islet, being one of the four most important forts of its time, thus holding significant historical value. The vaulted barracks is the main architectural form of the Jin Gui Tou Fort and is a characteristic feature of the fortifications in the Penghu area. Today, the surrounding earthen walls, the fort's protective structures, base, and the archway at the entrance are all well-preserved, with the earthen walls constructed using Penghu's famous basalt rocks, bound together with cement. The gunpowder smoke of past battles has long since dissipated with the passage of time, and the Jin Gui Tou Fort, now restored, presents its old stories and new appearance to visitors, having opened for tours on April 26, 2017. Nearby historical sites such as the former residence of Pan Anbang, Tian Hou Temple, Shun Cheng Gate, and Du Xing Ten Village are also worth visiting, making it a must-see for those interested in historical culture. The Jin Gui Tou Fort, resembling a small peninsula, carries an essence of antiquity and offers a unique charm at dusk, basking in the soft glow of the sunset, making it a prime location for appreciating the beauty of twilight.
