White Lighthouse Introduction
The White Lighthouse is located on the southern side of Liuqiu Islet, at the top of the western side of the Houshi Skirt Reef. It is an international lighthouse also known as "Baitang Tower." Built in 1929, the base to the top of the tower is about 10 meters, and from the sea level to the top, it is 88 meters. It is equipped with an automatic flashing light that operates day and night, serving as a guiding beacon for fishing boats traveling to and from the area, similar to the Eluanbi Lighthouse in Kenting National Park. For enthusiasts of firefly observation, this area is particularly suitable from the spring equinox to late autumn. As night falls, the grasses on both sides of the lighthouse entrance are filled with countless sparkling points, with the air glittering with the fireflies' glow as male and female Taiwanese fireflies busily light up the serene summer nights. At the same time, the Formosan rock lizards and Formosan brown tree snakes boldly cling to the nearby banyan roots, sleeping without a care, showcasing their impressive skills, which brings a smile to onlookers.
