Hou-shih Kuan Reef Introduction
Liuqiu Island is home to many strange and rugged rocks, mostly concentrated near the "Thick Stone Skirt Reef" on the southeastern coast. Following the Island Circular Road from Wugui Cave, one is greeted by a giant boulder resembling a red sweet potato. Its top is lush with foliage, and from a distance, its overall silhouette looks like an Indian's head, hence it is called "Red Sweet Potato Rock." Further down, using one's imagination, one can discover a rock that resembles Guanyin, sitting serenely by the shore, with a mountain behind and the sea in front. Upon closer inspection, the facial features are quite distinct! In addition to Red Sweet Potato Rock and Guanyin Rock, there are also Climbing Tiger Rock, Polar Bear Rock, and Speaking Mouth Rock, among others. When visiting this area, don’t just snap a few photos and move on; instead, let your imagination run wild and create names for these peculiar rocks, weaving a captivating story. The depressions in the Thick Stone Skirt Reef area were once used by ancestors for salt drying. Due to its excellent geographical and geological environment, it is favored by residents. Everything on the island is used to its fullest, truly making it the only coral reef island in Taiwan.
