Qiu Liang-gong's Filial Piety Arch Introduction
Qiu Liangong's mother, Mrs. Hsu, was the wife of Qiu Zhiren, a general of the Qing dynasty. Shortly after Qiu Liangong's full moon celebration, his father passed away. At that time, the young Mrs. Hsu worked hard to raise her newborn son, Qiu Liangong. After Qiu Liangong grew up, he joined the military and rose from a grassroots soldier to a general. In the fourteenth year of the Jiaqing era, Qiu Liangong was promoted to the Governor-General of Zhejiang’s land and naval forces, and he petitioned the emperor to commend his mother, Mrs. Hsu. He received praise from Emperor Renzong, who awarded Mrs. Qiu the title of First-Class Madama and built an archway in recognition of her virtue in remaining faithful and raising her son alone. This archway was constructed in 1812 using high-quality granite and blue stone; its delicate carvings depict Qiu Liangong's return home in glory, and there are couplets inscribed by famous figures, leaving a profound impression!
