Jincheng Civil Defense Tunnel Introduction
After 1949, the battlefield of Kinmen aimed to achieve the tactical goal of "preserving combat readiness underground and promoting firepower above ground." Starting in 1968, large-scale underground tunnels were constructed using the geological conditions of Kinmen granite, with the Jincheng Civil Defense Tunnel being one of them. This tunnel is connected to important institutions such as the Kinmen Administrative Committee, Kinmen County Government, Kinmen Investigation Bureau, Kinmen Civil Self-Defense Corps, Land Bank, Waterworks Bureau, Kinmen Electric Company, Jincheng Station, and Kinmen Post Office, creating a well-planned battle preparation network underground. Now that the war has passed, the Jincheng Civil Defense Tunnel has become a meaningful educational wartime relic, offering free guided tours daily for visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the panic during wartime. At the entrance of the second-floor tunnel, there is an interactive display themed "Call of Kinmen Veterans," where you can try aiming and throwing grenades from an ammunition box into a bunker!
