Jincheng Civil Defense Tunnel Introduction
Since 1949, the battlefield of Kinmen, in order to achieve the tactical goal of "preserving combat capability underground and showcasing firepower above ground," began constructing numerous underground tunnels from 1968, taking advantage of the granite geological conditions of Kinmen. The Jincheng Civil Defense Tunnel is one of them. This tunnel is connected by an underground system to important agencies such as the Kinmen Administrative Office, the Kinmen County Government, the Kinmen Investigation Office, the Kinmen County Self-Defense Corps, the Land Bank, the Water Plant, the Kinmen Electric Company, Jincheng Station, and the Kinmen Post Office, creating a meticulously crafted war preparation network underground. Now that the wars have passed, the Jincheng Civil Defense Tunnel has become a significant educational wartime relic, offering free guided tours daily to help visitors gain a deeper understanding of the fears experienced during the wartime. There is an interactive display themed around the call for Kinmen veterans at the entrance of the second floor tunnel, where you can try aiming and throwing grenades from a box at a bunker!
