Jincheng Civil Defense Tunnel Introduction
Since 1949, in the wartime Kimen, in order to achieve the tactical goal of "preserving combat capabilities underground and leveraging firepower on the surface," a large number of underground tunnels were constructed from 1968, utilizing Kimen's granite geological conditions. The Jincheng Civil Defense Tunnel is one of them. This tunnel is interconnected through an underground system with key institutions such as the Kimen Commissioner Office, Kinmen County Government, Kinmen Investigation Office, Kinmen County People's Self-Defense Force, Land Bank, Water Supply Plant, Jin Electric Company, Jincheng Station, and Kinmen Post Office, creating a comprehensive wartime preparedness network underground. Now that the war has passed, the Jincheng Civil Defense Tunnel has become an educational war relic, with free guided tours daily, allowing visiting travelers to gain deeper insights into the anxious times of warfare. The entrance of the second-floor tunnel features a theme display of Kimen veterans' recruitment, which is interactive, inviting visitors to try aiming and throwing grenades from the ammo box into the bunker!
