Jincheng Civil Defense Tunnel Introduction
After 1949, Kinmen, a battlefield, aimed to achieve the tactical goal of "preserving combat power underground and enhancing firepower above ground." Starting in 1968, a large number of underground tunnels were constructed utilizing the geological conditions of Kinmen granite, and the Jincheng Civil Defense Tunnel is one of them. This tunnel is connected through an underground system to important agencies such as the Kinmen Executive Office, Kinmen County Government, Kinmen District Office, Kinmen Civilian Self-Defense Corps, Land Bank, Waterworks, Jin Dian Company, Jincheng Station, and Kinmen Post Office, creating a sophisticated wartime network underground. Now that the war has passed, the Jincheng Civil Defense Tunnel has become a significant educational wartime relic, offering free guided tours every day, allowing visiting travelers to gain a deeper understanding of the anxiety during the wartime period. At the entrance of the second-floor tunnel, there is an interactive display themed "Call for Kinmen Veterans," where you can try aiming and throwing grenades from an ammunition box into the bunker!
