Mofan Street Introduction
Mofan Street was originally the training ground for Zheng Chenggong during the late Ming Dynasty. It was built with funds from the Kinmen Chamber of Commerce in 1924, consisting of two parts: a horizontal street and a vertical street, both constructed with red brick arcades. Following the "Wujiaji" style introduced from Southeast Asia, both sides of the street are lined with two-section shop houses, with the first section being Western-style buildings and the second section featuring Fujian-style architecture. The exterior is neat and classical, showcasing both the aesthetics of early Republican Chinese architecture and Western-style buildings, arranged in a very orderly fashion. The single-arch arches exhibit beautiful lines, reflecting great architectural artistry, making it an outstanding model, hence its name Mofan Street. Today, Mofan Street is a mixed residential and commercial area with many new shops opening, selling local souvenirs and offering various dining options, allowing travelers to experience a different charm of Kinmen.
