Mofan Street Introduction

Mofan Street was originally the training ground for Zheng Chenggong's troops at Houpu during the late Ming Dynasty. In 1924, it was built with funds raised by the Kinmen Chamber of Commerce, comprising two sections: a horizontal street and a vertical street, both constructed with red brick arcades. Based on the "five-legged" style introduced from Southeast Asia, both sides of the street are lined with two-section shop houses. The first section features Western-style buildings, while the second section showcases Minnan-style architecture. The overall appearance is neat and classical, beautifully combining the aesthetics of early Republican Chinese architecture and Western buildings. The layout is very orderly, and the single-arch arcades exhibit elegant lines, showcasing remarkable architectural artistry, which is why it is called Mofan Street. Today, Mofan Street is a mixed residential and commercial area with many new shops, offering not only souvenirs but also a variety of restaurants, allowing travelers to experience a different charm of Kinmen.
