Mofan Street Introduction

Mofan Street was originally the training ground for Zheng Chenggong’s troops in the late Ming Dynasty. It was funded by the Kinmen Chamber of Commerce and established in 1924. The street consists of two parts, a horizontal street and a vertical street, both constructed with red brick arcades. Following the "five-legged" style introduced from Southeast Asia, both sides of the street feature two-entry shop houses; the first entry showcases Western-style buildings, while the second entry displays Min-style architecture. The overall appearance is neat and classical, combining the aesthetics of early Republic of China architecture and Western-style buildings. The arrangement is orderly, and the single-arch arcs present beautiful lines, showcasing remarkable architectural artistry, which is why it is called Mofan Street. Today, Mofan Street is a mix of residential and commercial spaces, with many new creative shops and restaurants, providing travelers with a unique taste of Kinmen’s charm.
