Mofan Street Introduction
Mofan Street was originally a military training ground for Zheng Chenggong during the late Ming Dynasty. It was built in 1924 with funds raised by the Kinmen Chamber of Commerce, divided into two parts: horizontal and vertical streets, both constructed with red brick arcades. Following the "five-foot-based" style introduced from Southeast Asia, the streets are lined with two-entry shops, with the first entry featuring Western-style buildings and the second entry showcasing Fujian-style architecture. The exterior is neat and classical, blending the aesthetic of early Republican Chinese architecture with Western-style houses, arranged very orderly. The single-arch arches exhibit elegant lines, showcasing a rich architectural artistry, making it a remarkable model, thus named Mofan Street. Today, Mofan Street features a mix of residential and commercial spaces, with many new shops opening, offering not only souvenirs but also a variety of restaurants, allowing travelers to experience a different charm of Kinmen.
