Kinmen Christian Church Introduction
In 1922, Pastor Ou Yang initiated the construction of a new church due to the old church being inadequate. The church was founded in 1924 using part of the land purchased from the original site of the Qing Dynasty's former county magistrate's office, and included community facilities as well as Peide Primary School and kindergarten, which were completed in December 1924. In June 1934, Pastor Huang Weimin went to Nanyang to raise funds and gather materials for the construction of the pastor's residence. After the opening of the five ports for trade in the late Qing Dynasty, Western missionaries arrived in Xiamen and Kinmen, though initial interactions with old customs did not go smoothly, and there were few congregants. In the 22nd year of the Guangxu reign (1896), the London Mission established congregations in two locations: Shamai and the Xiyuan Salt Field on the eastern part of Kinmen Island. The following year, they also set up a meeting place in the South Gate of Houpu, with about a hundred followers. That same year, Presbyterian pastor Shao Dezhen came to Kinmen to preach and established a meeting place at the North Gate of Houpu, specifically on Lieyu. In 1900, the China Christian Church was established, integrating the London Mission and the Presbyterian Church. The first president, Huang Hecheng, purchased land to build a church on the current site of Zhongxing Road in Beimen Village. In 1922, due to an increase in congregants, the old church became insufficient, prompting the church to decide to fundraise for a new building. In April 1923, under the leadership of President Ou Yang, they purchased part of the land from the original site of the Qing Dynasty's former county magistrate's office and constructed community facilities and Peide Primary School and kindergarten, costing over 4,000 taels of silver, with completion by December 1924. The Houpu Christian Church is situated on elevated terrain, giving it a grand presence. The church is a single-story structure, while the pastor's residence is located in the Hulong area and is a Western-style building with a five-legged foundation. Source: Ministry of Culture
