Wudao Chenghuang Temple Introduction

Wuzhou is an ancient place name in Kinmen. The City God of Houpou (Jincheng) was established in the 21st year of the Kangxi reign (1682) when the first Kinmen garrison commander Chen Long moved the garrison from Jinmen City to Houpou and transferred the City God there, which has a history of more than 300 years. The Wuzhou City God Temple has undergone several repairs, and in recent years it has been reconstructed with granite and cement, making the temple even more grand and magnificent. After Zhu Yuanzhang of the Ming Dynasty claimed the throne, he once said, "I establish the City God so that people may know fear; if there is something to fear, they will not dare to act recklessly." This demonstrates the consensus on the reverence and piety towards the City God among both emperors and the general public. The procession of the Wuzhou City God on the 12th day of the 4th lunar month is the largest religious event in Kinmen. In recent years, this significant day has been combined with a cultural tourism season, inviting various traditional performance troupes, allowing travelers to experience the richness of Kinmen's religious culture firsthand.
