Wuqiu Chenghuang Temple Introduction

Wuzhou is an ancient place name in Kinmen. The City God of Houpu (Jincheng) was moved from Jinmen City to Houpu by the first Kinmen County military governor, Chen Long, in the 21st year of the Kangxi era (1682). The City God was also relocated here, and the temple has a history of over three hundred years. The Wuzhou City God Temple has undergone several renovations and, in recent years, has been remodeled using granite, cement, and other materials, which has made the temple more magnificent and grand. After Zhu Yuanzhang established the Ming Dynasty, he once said: "I establish the City God so that people may know fear; if people have something to fear, they will not dare to act recklessly." This demonstrates that both the emperor and the common people share a mutual respect and piety towards the City God. The "Wuzhou City God Parade" on the twelfth day of the fourth lunar month is the grandest religious activity in Kinmen. In modern times, this important day has been combined with a cultural tourism season, inviting various groups to showcase traditional performances, allowing travelers to personally experience the richness of Kinmen's religious culture.
