Wuzhishan Chenghuang Temple Introduction
Wuzhou is an ancient place name in Kinmen. The City God of Houpu (Jincheng) was established in the 21st year of the Kangxi Emperor (1682), when the first Kinmen garrison commander, Chen Long, moved the garrison office from Jinmen City to Houpu and also transferred the City God here. This has a history of over three hundred years. The Wudao City God Temple has undergone multiple renovations, and in recent years it has been reconstructed with granite and cement, making the temple more grand and majestic. After Zhu Yuanzhang gained power during the Ming Dynasty, he said, "I establish the City God so that people may know fear; if people have something to fear, they will not dare to act recklessly." This reflects the consistent reverence and devotion to the City God, both from the emperor and the public. The "Wudao City God Procession," held on the twelfth day of the fourth lunar month, is the largest religious event in Kinmen. In modern times, this significant day has been combined with a tourism and cultural festival, inviting various traditional performance groups to showcase their arts, allowing travelers to personally experience the richness of Kinmen's religious culture.
