Lion Mountain Artillery Position Introduction
The Lion Mountain Artillery Fortification is located behind the Shanhou Folk Culture Village on Lion Mountain. It is the only existing tunnel-type artillery position, also known as the Zhendong Tunnel, which carries the meaning of "to awe the Jinjiang area." The tunnel spans 508 meters in length, with an average height of 4.6 meters and a width of 3.6 meters, making it relatively spacious. The tunnel was converted for tourism in 2011 and is open for visitors to explore the internal combat readiness room, storage area, ammunition room, and bunkers. The walls are engraved with motivational slogans and military training mottos, preserving the complete fortification facilities, especially the 8-inch howitzer that achieved notable success during the 823 Artillery Battle, with a range of 17 kilometers and considerable power, reflecting the intensity of the battle at that time. Now that the horrors of war have subsided, the fortification is known for its famous artillery drills, which demonstrate the process of firing shells in front of tourists. Although no longer as intimidating as in the past, the powerful responses and precise movements still leave a deep impression on visitors. Artillery Drill Performance: ◾️ No performance on Thursdays; a total of six shows daily, with an additional show at 9:00 AM on weekends and holidays. ◾️ Performance times: Two shows in the morning: 10:00, 11:00; Four shows in the afternoon: 13:30, 14:30, 15:30, 16:30.
