Lion Mountain Artillery Fortifications Introduction
Shishan Artillery Hiding Site is located behind Shishan in the Shan-Hou Folk Culture Village. It is the only remaining tunnel-style artillery position, also known as the Zhendong Tunnel, which means "Weizhen Jindong". The tunnel is 508 meters long, with an average height of 4.6 meters and a width of 3.6 meters, making it quite spacious. The tunnel was converted for tourism use in 2011 and is open for visitors to explore the internal readiness rooms, storage rooms, ammunition rooms, and gun emplacements. The walls are engraved with motivational slogans and military training phrases, preserving the original fortification facilities, particularly the 8-inch howitzer that achieved military success during the 823 Bombardment, with a range of up to 17 kilometers, showcasing the intensity of the battle at that time. Now that the terror of war has passed, the famous gun drill performances at Shishan Artillery Hiding Site demonstrate the process of firing artillery before the eyes of tourists. Although it is no longer as overwhelming as in the past, the powerful counting and marching still leave a deep impression on visitors.
