Lion Mountain Gun Emplacement Introduction
The Lion Mountain Artillery Position is located behind the Shanhou Folk Culture Village on Lion Mountain. It is the only existing tunnel-type artillery position, also known as the Zhgendong Tunnel, which carries the meaning of "Powerful and Awe-inspiring Golden East." The tunnel is 508 meters long, with an average height of 4.6 meters and a width of 3.6 meters, making it quite spacious. In 2011, the tunnel was transformed for tourism use, allowing visitors to explore its interior including the combat preparation room, storage room, ammunition room, and gun turret. The walls are inscribed with motivational slogans and military training messages, preserving the complete facilities of the position, particularly the 8-inch howitzer that achieved battlefield success during the 823 Artillery Battle, with a range of up to 17 kilometers, showcasing the ferocity of the conflict at that time. Now that the horrors of war are no longer present, the famous artillery drill at the Lion Mountain Artillery Position demonstrates the process of firing a shell in front of visitors. Although it may not be as intimidating as it once was, the powerful answers and steps still leave a lasting impression on those visiting.
