Lion Mountain Artillery Position Introduction
Shishan Artillery Position is located behind Shishan in the Shanhou Folk Culture Village. It is the only existing tunnel-type artillery position, also known as the Zhendong Tunnel, which means "to intimidate Jin Dong." The tunnel is 508 meters long, with an average height of 4.6 meters and a width of 3.6 meters, making it quite spacious. The tunnel was converted for tourism use in 2011 and is open for visitors to explore the internal combat rooms, storage rooms, artillery rooms, and gun emplacements, with walls inscribed with inspirational slogans and military training mottos, preserving the complete facilities of the position. Notably, the 8-inch howitzer that achieved military success during the 823 Artillery Battle, with a range of 17 kilometers and immense power, showcases the intensity of the combat at that time. Now that the terror of war has passed, the famous artillery drill performance at Shishan Artillery Position interprets the process of firing artillery in front of tourists. Although it is no longer as daunting as in the past, the resonant counting and marching still leave a profound impression on visitors. Artillery Drill Performance ◾️ Performance Times: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM; afternoons at 1:50 PM, 2:50 PM, 3:50 PM, and 4:50 PM ◾️ No performances on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
