Lion Mountain Artillery Position Introduction
The Lion Mountain Artillery Position is located behind the Shanhou Folk Culture Village on Lion Mountain. It is the only existing tunnel-type artillery position, also known as the Zhendong Tunnel, which means "We震金東." The tunnel is 508 meters long, with an average height of 4.6 meters and a width of 3.6 meters, making it quite spacious. In 2011, the tunnel was converted for tourism purposes and opened for visits to the internal combat readiness room, storage rooms, artillery chambers, and bunkers. The walls are inscribed with motivational slogans and military training phrases, preserving the complete artillery facilities. Notably, the 8-inch howitzer, which achieved great merits during the 823 Artillery Battle, has a range of 17 kilometers and immense firepower, showcasing the intensity of the combat during that time. Now that the horrors of war have passed, the famous artillery drill at the Lion Mountain Artillery Position demonstrates the process of firing shells in front of tourists. Although it is no longer as shocking as it once was, the resonant responses and movements still leave a deep impression on visitors. Artillery drill performance: ◾️ Performance times: Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, morning: 10:00, 11:00; afternoon: 13:50, 14:50, 15:50, 16:50 ◾️ No performance on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
