Chen De-Hsing Western-style House Introduction
The Chen De-Hsing Western-style house is located in the sparsely populated Bishan settlement. The house is particularly prominent at the entrance of the settlement. Built in 1926, it is considered one of the early Western-style buildings in Kinmen. Although the exterior appears somewhat worn, the overall grandeur of the past is still evident. The front of the house is engraved with images of a mouse, goldfish, and a banana plant; the first two symbolize fertility and a prosperous family, while the banana plant, in Taiwanese pronunciation, sounds like 'invitation', implying a wish for wealth and prosperity.
