Chen Te-hsing Western-style House Introduction
The Chen De-hsing Western-style house is located in the sparsely populated Bishan settlement. The house is prominently situated at the entrance of the settlement and was built in 1926, making it one of the early Western-style buildings in Kinmen. Despite its somewhat dilapidated exterior, its past grandeur is still evident. The front of the house is engraved with images of a mouse, a goldfish, and a banana plant. The first two symbolize fertility and abundance, while the banana plant sounds like the word 'invitation' in Taiwanese, implying an invitation to wealth. (Image source: Zheng Bi-zhen)
