Chen De-hsing Western-style House Introduction
The Chen De-Xing Western-style mansion is located in the less populated Bihshan settlement. The mansion is particularly prominent, situated at the entrance of the settlement. Built in 1926, it is one of the early Western-style buildings in Kinmen. Although it appears somewhat dilapidated, its former grandeur is still evident. The front of the house is engraved with images of a mouse, goldfish, and a banana plant. The first two symbolize a prosperous lineage, while the banana plant sounds like "zhao" in Taiwanese, which implies the invitation of wealth. (Image source: Zheng Bi-Zhen)
