Chen Te-hsing Mansion Introduction
The Chen De-Xing Western-style House is located in the sparsely populated Bishan settlement. The villa stands at the entrance of the settlement, making it particularly eye-catching. Built in 1926, it is one of the early Western-style buildings in Kinmen. Although its exterior shows some signs of decay, the former grandeur is still discernible. The façade of the house is engraved with images of a mouse, goldfish, and banana plants. The first two symbolize having many descendants, while the banana plant, pronounced similarly to the word for 'invitation' in Taiwanese, implies the invitation of wealth. (Image source: Zheng Bi-Chen)
