Chen Te-hsing Western-style Building Introduction
The Chen De-Xing Western-style mansion is located in the less populated Bih Shan settlement. The mansion is particularly prominent as it is situated at the entrance of the settlement. Built in 1926, it is considered one of the early Western-style buildings in Kinmen. Although the exterior appears somewhat dilapidated, the overall grandeur of the past is still evident. The front of the house is engraved with images of a mouse, a goldfish, and a banana tree; the first two symbolize abundance of descendants, while the banana tree (in Taiwanese, sounds like 'inviting') suggests the meaning of attracting wealth.
