Boat Fort Introduction
The "Ship-shaped Fort" (E-037) is located at the coastal area of Houbian Lake Mountain Bay in Kinmen. The fort stands three stories high, with underground tunnels connecting the bunkers on both sides. It is named for its appearance resembling a battleship and is also known as "Hushan Fort." The ship's bow faces the shore, presenting an interesting sight of a large ship coming ashore. It once supported the two positions at Hanshehua (E-034) and Houbian (E-042) and serves as a fortification with deceptive capabilities. Without its defensive role, the Ship-shaped Fort features a striking three-tiered track structure in front, making it eye-catching. This uniquely designed fort is a rare military site in the Kinmen area and is sought after by many travelers. The slogan "Coexistence of Life and Death with the Position" within the fort demonstrates the hard work and determination of the soldiers on the island. After renovations by the Kinmen National Park Administration, it officially reopened on January 18, 2019, revitalizing the fort and exemplifying the case of repurposing a military heritage site. The vibrant and eye-catching photo wall features iconic Kinmen architecture such as Juguang Tower and Deyue Tower, along with the classic "Never Forget in Ju" from Mount Dawu, and charming characters like the Crested Myna, Blue-tailed Bee-eater, otter babies, and the recently frequently seen cormorants. These characters, created by illustrator A-Mai, are infused with elements characteristic of Kinmen, creating a rich composition that captures attention!
