Tong'an Ferry Port Introduction
Tong'an Ferry Terminal is located in Jincheng Township and was the main dock for traveling to Zhangzhou and Xiamen in the past. Due to its important geographical location, commercial trade thrived in earlier years, and the flow of people was constant. The area offers a broad view, allowing for a distant gaze at the sea. The scenery outside the dock is open, making it feel as though one is standing on a ship ready to depart. The port has been a place for travelers to leave their hometowns, merchants to come and go, and families to wait, recording many local stories and memories. During World War II, Kinmen was occupied by Japan. In the later stages of the war, as Japan faced losses in the Pacific theater, the Japanese troops stationed in Kinmen were blockaded by the Allied forces and faced supply difficulties, leading to the conscription of about five hundred pack mules and their owners from the entire island. These individuals and mules were forced to follow the Japanese troops, and many died along the way due to exhaustion or other reasons. To commemorate this history, a "Monument for the Victims of the Conscription of Mule Drivers in Kinmen by the Japanese Army" was established locally, reminding future generations not to forget this past. Tong'an Ferry Terminal is not only a transportation hub but also an important landmark of Kinmen's history and war memory.
