Tong'an Dutuo Introduction

Tong'an Ferry Terminal is located in Jincheng Township and was the main port for traveling to Zhangzhou and Xiamen in the past. Due to its important geographical location, it thrived with commercial trade and constantly bustling with people. The area offers a wide view of the sea, and standing by the shore feels as if one is on a boat about to set sail. The port was a place for travelers departing, merchants visiting, and families waiting, holding many stories and memories of the local area. During World War II, Kinmen was occupied by Japan. In the later stages of the war, as Japan faced defeats in the Pacific, the Japanese military stationed in Kinmen was cut off from supplies by Allied forces and forcibly requisitioned around 500 mules and their owners from the entire island. These people and mules were forced to follow the actions of the Japanese military, and many died from exhaustion or other reasons along the way. To commemorate this part of history, a "Monument to the Victims of Forced Requisition of Jinmen Mule Drivers by the Japanese Military" was established locally to remind future generations not to forget this past. Tong'an Ferry Terminal is not only a transportation hub but also an important landmark of Kinmen's history and wartime memories.
