Tong'an Ferry Port Introduction
Tong'an Ferry Terminal is located in Jincheng Township and was once the main dock for traveling to Zhangzhou and Xiamen. Due to its strategic geographical location, commercial trade thrived in the past, with a constant flow of people coming and going. The area offers a wide view, allowing visitors to gaze out at the sea. The scenery beyond the dock is expansive, and standing by the shore feels like standing on a ship ready to set sail. The port has been a place for travelers departing, merchants interacting, and families waiting, recording many local stories and memories. During World War II, Kinmen was occupied by Japan. In the later stages of the war, Japan, facing losses in the Pacific War, had its troops in Kinmen blockaded by Allied forces, leading to supply difficulties. As a result, around five hundred mules and their owners were forcibly requisitioned from the entire island. These people and their mules were compelled to follow the Japanese troops, and many died along the way due to exhaustion or other reasons. To commemorate this history, a "Monument to the Victims of the Forced Requisition of Kinmen Muleteers by the Japanese Army" was established locally, reminding future generations not to forget this past. Tong'an Ferry Terminal is not just a transportation hub but also an important landmark of Kinmen's history and memories of war.
