Tong'an Ferry Point Introduction
Tong'an Ferry Terminal is located in Jincheng Township and was once the main dock leading to Zhangzhou and Xiamen. Due to its important geographical location, trade flourished in the past, bringing a constant flow of people. The area offers a wide view, allowing one to gaze out at the sea. The scenery outside the dock is expansive, and standing by the shore feels like being on a ship about to set sail. The port has been a place for travelers departing, merchants coming and going, and families waiting, recording many local stories and memories. During World War II, Kinmen was occupied by Japan. In the latter part of the war, as Japan faced defeats in the Pacific, the Japanese troops stationed in Kinmen were blockaded by the Allies, leading to supply difficulties. Consequently, about 500 mules and their owners from the entire island were forcibly requisitioned. These individuals and their mules were forced to follow the Japanese military, with many suffering death due to exhaustion or other reasons along the way. To commemorate this history, a monument called "The Monument for the Jinmen Mule Drivers Requisitioned by the Japanese Army" has been established locally, reminding future generations not to forget this past. Tong'an Ferry Terminal is not only a transportation hub but also an important landmark of Kinmen's history and wartime memories.
