Army Bistro Introduction
In 2015, Taoyuan City awarded the Golden Medal to this popular restaurant. Many might assume that the owner grew up in a military dependents' village or is a descendant of the mainlanders, but in fact, the owner is a genuine Taiwanese, while the owner’s wife is a straightforward sister from Fuzhou. The couple has been in the food and beverage industry for a long time, originally operating a roasted meat shop before transforming into a restaurant serving military dependents' noodles. To perfect the flavors and textures, the owner specifically learned how to make noodles and side dishes from the mothers in the military dependents' village, attracting food lovers to come and taste their offerings. Due to their deep roots in the local community, it has become a popular spot for neighbors' meals. The menu at Army Xiao Guan primarily features noodles, with the most popular dish being the homemade noodle dumplings, which are chewy, rich in ingredients, and have a sweet broth that leaves diners feeling full after just one bowl. The signature dry mixed noodles are also a favorite, tossed with black pig lard for a delightful aroma. Accompanying the noodles are savory braised dishes and light side dishes that are refreshing and never greasy, ensuring they never get tiresome. While waiting for the dishes to be served, it’s often the best time to admire the restaurant's decor, which is filled with a variety of national flags, portraits of the founding father and Chiang Kai-shek, military uniform insignia, and nostalgic childhood toys from the military dependents' village.
